Egypt Under-23 scored two second half goals to beat Zambia 2-0 in Cairo on Wednesday night in a CAF U23 African Cup of Nations qualifier.
Goals from Ibrahim Adel and Abdurahman Atef were enough to give the young pharaohs a 2-0 caution over the Osward Mutapa coached Zambian side.
Mutapa handed international debuts to goalkeeper Francis Mwansa and left back Emmanuel Chembe as he benched the likes of John Chishimba and Patrick Gondwe.
After a goalless first half, Egypt become more purposeful and showed more intent at winning the game.
Adel scored a 25 yard scorcher off a well excuted counter attack to give the home the lead.
With Zambia trying to push for an equaliser, the Egyptians took advantage as Atef nodded home the second goal
Zambia host Egypt in the return leg on Sunday at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
