Zambia Under-23 has sailed through to the second round of the All Africa Games qualifiers following the withdrawal of Madagascar.
The Fighton Simukonda coached side were scheduled to lock horns with the islanders this month in a two a legged qualifier but news coming from CAF HQ indicate that the fixtures won’t go ahead.
The Junior Chipolopolo who have been training in Lusaka will now await the winners between Nigeria and Gabon to see who goes to the next round.
Coach Simukonda has a lot of quality players at his disposal with the likes Bruce Musakanya, Lubambo Musonda, Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba, Patrick ‘Dude’ Ngoma and Mukuka Mulenga all eligible to feature.
In the late 90’s and early 2000s, Zambia was on a constant feature at Africa’s Olympics equivalent.
This year’s All Africa Games will be staged in Congo brazaville.
Not a good development am afraid. We needed that fixture to sharpen our team. If U17 could beat their elder brothers then it’s not welcome news. Zambia must look to other teams for QUALITY friendlies.
Agreed.
So ZAMFOOT which one is which for Zambia’s next opponents, Gabon/Nigeria or Bostwana/Kenya winner? Because in your other report you cite the winner of the Bostwana/Kenya tie and now you have changed to Gabon/Nigeria winner.
Am wondering y mr simukonda hv failed to include de skilled Shadreck Musonda of Nkana in U23 team
Lets not have a situation where some genius a few years ago refused to use the likes of Mayuka, Mbola, etc in the Olympic qualifiers and we were beaten by Ivory Coast or some some team like that. Lets put the best line up possible and create a winning culture.
I also feel the team should not now sit on its bottom, good quality friendlies are needed lest they become rusty and sluggish like their elder brothers, screwed up Chipolopolo team.
nigeria will do.
So meaning breaking camp?
