Zambia U15 Girls Secure Bronze at CAF Schools Championship

The Zambia Under-15 Schools girls national team clinched a bronze medal at the CAF Schools Football Championship after defeating Morocco in a spirited encounter at Ngoni Stadium.

Zambia found the back of the net through Phidah Muzuwa and Catherine Kapolyo to overcome a Moroccan team they had previously beaten 2–0 earlier in the tournament.

Zambia created numerous chances in the bronze medal match and could have secured a more emphatic victory but were wasteful in front of goal.

Their breakthrough eventually came when their leading scorer rose to head home from a set piece.

Head coach Chisala Chibesa commended the team’s performance in their debut appearance.

“Having participated for the first time, I think the girls did well,” he said.

Team captain Rebecca Mbutawo expressed her joy following the victory.

“I am very excited for the victory. I am very happy about beating Morocco,” Mbutawo said.

And head of delegation Esther Bwalya praised the team’s achievement and resilience throughout the tournament.

“I thank God that we have come to the conclusion of the tournament today, where we have seen our girls emerge third at continental level, and that is not a mean achievement,” Bwalya said.

Bwalya praised CAF for a well organized tournament, adding that the girls have drawn a lot lessons from it.

“The girls put in their all and tried their level best to come back home with a trophy. But in football, it is about win, lose or draw. We are grateful for finishing in third position.” She added.
