Zambia will field the African Nations Championship (CHAN) local team at the 2025 HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Cup, the ZamFoot Crew understands.
The Wedson Nyirenda coached side that is already in camp will use the tournament as part of their preparations for the CHAN tournament.
The 2025 COSAFA Cup is set to take place between June 4th and June 15th in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
The Chipolopolo Boys have lifted the coveted COSAFA Cup more times than any other nation (7), one ahead of Zimbabwe (6).
Nyirenda will hope to guide his team to a record extending eighth title after last year’s disappointing showing that saw the team eliminated in the group stage losing all their three group matches.
The 2025 edition of the COSAFA Cup has also seen the inclusion of 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists Morocco, who will be making their debut as tournament guests. Morocco are placed in Group C alongside Madagascar and Eswatini.
Zambia was handed automatic qualification to the 2024 (to be played in 2025) African Nations Championship (CHAN) following the withdrawal of the Mozambique National Team in December last year.
Nyirenda is expected to call upon the likes of Willard Mwanza, Jimmy Mukeya, Ackim Mumba, Prince Mumba, Brian Masanyinga, Kenneth Kasanga, Kabaso Chongo, Kiliian Kanguluma and Fred Mulambia.
Nyirenda is also likely to include the Zambia U20 National Team duo of David Simukonda and Pascal Phiri.
Zambia are in group A with hosts Kenya, Morocco, Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC.
The CHAN tournament will run from August 2nd to 30th 2025 and is being jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
