History is on the cards this weekend as Abayellow are set to play in a CAF Inter club competition encounter against a Moroccan opponent for the first time in 22 years.
It’s game on this weekend as Power Dynamos first ever CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP STAGE match takes center stage at the Municipal De Berkane stadium on Saturday.
The opponent is Moroccan outfit Renaissance Sportive de Berkane popularly known as RS BERKANE, the winners of the 2024/2025 CAF Confederation Cup.
22 years later, Power Dynamos has returned to Morocco. Their last visit was a narrow 1-0 loss to Wydad Casablanca in the CAF confederations cup quarter final.
The first leg ended 2-1 in favour of Aba Yellow at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
On the local front, Berkane sit 6th on the log table after playing 6 games, with two games in hand 9 points behind leaders Wydad Casablanca while Power Dynamos are 3rd on the MTN Super League log table with 21 points, 3 behind Leaders Red arrows.
The form table suggests Power Dynamos are in fine form with 4 wins and one draw in their last 5 games while Berkane has 2 wins, 2 draws and one loss in their last 5 encounters.
RS Berkane will be banking on their massive experience as they have been perennial participants in continental club competitions, and a huge litmus test awaits the Zambia Super League defending Champions.
How will Coach Oswald ‘Mourinho’ Mutapa line up his troops against CAF CONFEDERATIONS CUP Defending CHAMPIONS on Saturday night? Is the big question.
Will Moses Shumah who has been in fantastic form in front of goal lead the charge or will he trust someone else like Ishmael Eddy Ankobo or Brian Masanyinga to lead the charge, Mutapa is clearly keeping his cards close to his chest.
With options in midfield like Fredrick Mulambia, Prince Mumba, Austin Muwowo, Daniel Adoko, Linos Makwaza Jnr , Mutapa surely has good options at his disposal, will that be enough against the North African side, that’s entirely another story.
