Zambia Super League week 12 comes alive with six epic clashes

The FAZ/MTN Superleague is back after two weeks recess which was aimed to allow players, coaches, and administrators to enjoy and celebrate the festival season with families and friends in the process saw the opening of the transfer window on 1st January which will run up to 31st January 2020 which will make the league so interesting with some teams already making reinforcements.

This week will see six teams in action with three games postponed. Teams like Green Eagles of Choma, Zesco United, Power Dynamos will be on a long break in the league due to their notable performers engaged with the Zambia National soccer team during the CHAN tournament in Cameroun, while Nkana will not play this weekend due to late arrival from Angola where they were involved in CAF champions league.

High Flying Nkwazi will also not be active as they are expected to play Zesco united who has some of its players with the national team.

Prison leopards will hope to continue with the good run in the league and maintain the top spot with Zesco and Zanaco mounting pressure on them while Buildcon will want to make it a reality to be in the top four. Kitwe United, Lumwana Radiants, Napsa Stars, and Young Green Eagles will continue fighting relegation? well, let’s wait and see.

Friday the 8th January will see Kabwe warriors fondly called the Magnificent people’s team host the strong and reliable Sensational Zanaco, the bankers at Godfrey Ucar Chitalu.

In the last five meetings, Kabwe Warriors have beaten Zanaco three times and have recorded two losses in the process. Fourteen goals have been scored in the same last five games with Zanaco scoring six past Kabwe warriors. The Njanji ni njanji boys, Kabwe Warriors have kept two clean sheets in the last five meetings.

The game promises to be an interesting one with Kabwe Warriors having a good advantage because Zanaco won’t have their experienced striker Rodger Kola, prolific striker Moses Phiri and anchorman Kelvin Kapumbu who is with the National team in Cameroun and they will hope Baba Basile who recently returned from a month-long lay off due to injury can bag them the much-needed goals.

Saturday,9th January will be marked by three encounters. Buildcon will welcome Red Arrows at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. Arrows have been very inconsistent this season, in the last five matches they have won one game, two loses, and two draws while Buildcon who started with a bang have seen their form start depreciating as they have suffered back-to-back losses.

In the last five meetings, Buildcon has won three and lost two. Thirteen goals have been scored during the five games with Buildcon scoring seven. This match is unpredictable as they both have shown the ability to win away from home between them as they have won one match each and the form for both teams is not so impressive this time around though Buildcon has had a better run in the league the last two games which have seen them record loses makes it hard to pick out the outright winner.

In solwezi at Independence stadium, Lumwana Radiants who so far have been making reinforcements during this transfer window as they have added two Cameroonians with one being a striker to partner with Felix Nyaende going forward and the other signing is a midfielder, they will host Bilton Musonda’s lads, Green Buffaloes.

In the last five games in the league, Green Buffaloes have not won any match with the best results being two draws while Lumwana has at least one win which came as a shocker against Buildcon and they have one draw with three losses.

The last five games between them have seen Lumwana Radiants win one game with two losses and two draws to their name. Ten goals have been scored between them with five apiece. Tenant Chembo has not won any match with Radiants since his appointment and will fancy this encounter as an opportunity to record his first win with the best result for Green Buffaloes likely to be a draw.

In Kafue town at Khosa stadium, Green Eagles who are young in the league will host Dabid Chilufya’s Indeni FC who have been labeled enterprising.

Indeni has been impressive but being away in Kafue may not be as easy as it seems on paper and they may get a shocker if not careful.

On Sunday the 10th of January, Forest Rangers who have been on the rise in the league will host Chingalika, Kitwe united at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium of Ndola town.

Forest Rangers have never lost to Kitwe united since 2018, they have won all two matches with one clean sheet on top. The anger for Forest Rangers which stems from the previous match which they lost to Kabwe Warriors will be poured on Kitwe united to compound more woes on the already troubled and struggling outfit who will play without the head coach as they sacked him a few weeks ago. Forest Ranger is expected to sail smoothly in the waters with this encounter but football being what it is a shock win for Kitwe United can’t be ruled out.

Napsa Stars fresh from qualifying to the playoff round of the CAF Confederation Cup host inform Prison Leopards an energetic and motivated side who have emerged as surprise league leaders.

Napsa Stars will hope to use the qualification as motivation in this encounter. A defeat is a very much possible result for Napsa Stars who have struggled so far in the league looking as Prison Leopards have already found their missing weapon which is goals but the Pensioners will be home playing in front of their fans.

Napsa Stars have struggled in front of goal this season but with the comeback of Bornwell Mwape and Tapson Kaseba from Injury, they will hope the duo can change the scope of their goal-scoring chart. A win for either side is also a reality with the team which will score more likely to carry the bragging rights of the match. It will be a match that will be decided by the players who will come to the party and show that they want it more.
