Zambia suffer defeat in CHAN openerĀ 

The Zambia National Team suffered a 2-0 defeat in their opening match of the 2025 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament. 

This was Zambia’s first ever group stage loss at a CHAN tournament, prior to this loss, the Chipolopolo Boys had won 6 and drawn 6 group stage games in their last 4 appearances.

The Chipolopolo Boys had also won all four of their previous opening matches at the CHAN tournament. 

After a goalless first half, DR Congo needed just six minutes to take the lead, Ibrahim Matobo Mubalu with a brilliant close range finish inside the box. 

Zambia tried to push for an equalizer but it was the Leopards who added a second goal, Malanga Horso Mwaku in the 71st minute looped the ball over  Willard Mwanza. 

DR Congo held on to win the match and returned to winning ways after losing their opening match to Kenya.
