Zambia just a point away from AFCON qualification

Zambia National Team is just now a point away from qualification to its first Africa Cup of Nations tournament since 2015.

The Copper Bullets last appeared at the Continental showpiece back in 2015 under Honor Janza and were eliminated in the group stage.

The 2012 African Champions are now just a point away from returning to the biggest football fiesta on the continent.

Avram Grant’s men recorded back to back wins beating Lesotho 3-1 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium and 2-0 away in Johannesburg to move up to nine points after four rounds of matches.

The Copper Bullets were done a huge favour by the Elephants of Ivory Coast who have already qualified as hosts when they also completed a double on Comoros on Tuesday.

Ibrahim Sangare gave the West Africans a 1-0 lead in the first half before Franck Kessie wrapped it up in the 58th minute with a well taken goal.

The win saw Ivory Coast move top of Group H on 10 points leapfrogging Zambia who dropped to second with 9 points.

Comoros and Lesotho are on 3 and a point each respectively.

Zambia will now just need a point from a possible 6 but can also qualify if Comoros fail to beat Lesotho in June.

Zambia will host Ivory Coast in June with the final games in September.
