The Zambia Women’s National Team have landed safely in Lusaka from South Africa where they settled for silver at the 2023 COSAFA Women’s Championship.
The team arrived at the Kenneth Kaunda International airport on Monday evening. The Queens were welcomed by Zambia Sports Fans Association patron Pastor Peter Makembo.
On Sunday, Zambia lost 2-1 to Malawi in the final at Lucas Moripe stadium to miss out on the trophy they lifted in 2022.
The whole locally assembled Copper Queens squad started their campaign on a slow note with a draw against Mozambique.
Zambia then kicked into gear beating Angola 3-1 with goals from Sarah Jere (a brace) and Jackline Nkole.
They concluded their group stage games with a tie against Comoros who they beat 5-1 thanks to a Friday Kabwe hat-trick and a goal each from Lushomo Mweemba and Sarah Jere.
In the semifinals, the 2022 WAFCON bronze medalists edged Zimbabwe 1-0, Sarah Jere with a brilliant lone goal.
