Young Pharaohs enter camp ahead of Zambia friendly match

Egypt U-20 national team head coach Mahmoud Gaber has named a strong squad to face their Zambian counterparts in two international friendly matches. 

Gaber’s squad is led by a highly rated Germany based youngster, Hamburg playmaker Omar Magueed,17.

Magueed made history with Hamburg back in August becoming the youngest debutant for the club at 16 years and 359 days.

Udinese forward Salah Basha and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Mostafa Ashraf have also been called up to the squad along with Vizela shot-stopper Ahmed Nader El-Sayed.

Chisi Mbewe’s side has been in camp since the start of this month while Gaber’s squad entered camp on Wednesday.   Mbewe named a 36 member squad for a first residential camp on December 3. 

Skipper Dominic Kanda, goalkeeper Jeban Tembo, COSAFA U-20 player of the tournament Charles Majapa Mumba, defender Ricky Chanda, Atletico Lusaka forward Kings Mutandwa and exciting winger Songa Chipyoka are among the notable names in the squad. 

The team is expected to be boosted by European based duo of wingers Richard ‘Chungi’ Ngoma and Peter ‘Evra’ Chikola

The Young Pharaohs and the Young Bullets are using the games as part of their preparations for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. 

Zambia returns to the under-20 AFCON fold for the first time since their 2017 expedition that saw them lift the crown on home soil.

The  2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations will be hosted by Egypt between 18th February and 12th March. 

The top four teams at the tournament will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Indonesia later that year.

Midfielders: Khaled Awad, Nour El-Din, Ahmed Roshdy, Ahmed Bayoumi, Mohamed Fares, Mido Nabil, Maged Hany, Tarek Alaa, Ahmed Abdelrahim, Youssef El-Azab, and Mostafa Ashraf.

Forwards: Ahmed Sherif, Mahmoud Morsy, Salah Basha, Youssef Hassan, Abdelrahman Zaki, and Ahmed Nader Hawash
