Young Copper Queens cruised to another victory at COSAFA U20 Women’s Championship

The Zambia U20 Women’s Championship recorded their third straight win at the ongoing COSAFA U20 Women’s Championship to remain in pole position to win the tournament.

The Young Copper thrashed Botswana 6-0 to make it 3 win in a row keeping a third clean sheet.

Zambia started the match like a house on fire needing just 45 seconds to take the lead, Jacqueline Nambeye with a close range finish after Botswana failed to deal with a corner.

They had to wait a bit for a second goal as Saliya Mwanza kept her goal scoring form going, netting a brilliant low drive from outside the box 5 minutes after the half hour to make it 2-0.

Coach Charles Haalubono made two changes in the first half withdrawing Lubasi Pumulo and Bwalya Namute Chileshe for Mary Mukupa and debutante Gift Kalwizhi.

Kalwizhi needed only a few minutes to make her mark as she set up Mary Mbewe for the third goal in the 41st minute.

The Young Copper Queens went to the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.

In the second half, Substitute Ruth Muwowo forced an own goal from Ivy Mankgatau in the 65th minute to make it 4-0.

Edith Phiri then joined the party in the 79th minute to make it 5-0 before Ruth Muwowo could seal the win seven minutes to time.

Zambia will conclude their campaign tomorrow at 12h00 against Mozambique. They only need a point to win the tournament.
