The Eden University Women’s Super League kicked off on Saturday afternoon with four exciting matches taking centre stage across the country.
The early kick off saw the Elite Ladies take on Nkwazi at Independence Stadium to kick off the 2025/2026 season.
ESTHER PHIRI SCORES FIRST GOAL OF THE SEASON
Nkwazi edged the Elite Ladies 1-0 in the first match of the season. Esther Phiri’s 49th minute strike was enough to seal the win for the Zambia Police sponsored outfit and was the first goal of the 2025/2026 Eden University Women’s Super League season.
The Elite Ladies were missing their star midfielder Lilian Mweenda who is on school leave, and striker Wendy Mwiikisa who just recovered from injury.
RUTH NGOMA SHINES IN ZANACO WIN
Ruth Ngoma scored a brace to guide ZANACO to a 2-1 win over Nchanga Rangers Queens in a highly contested encounter played at Sunset Stadium.
Ruth first put ZANACO Ladies in the lead in the 21st minute with a close range finish after a beautiful team build up.
Tricia Mabamba pulled Nchanga Rangers Queens level with a close range finish after some miscommunication at the back between the defenders and the goalkeeper shortly after the start of the second half.
The Nchanga Rangers Queens goal brought the match back to life and it was end to end stuff.
Gracious Tailoshi came close with a free kick needing a finger tip save from Anna Mukumbuta to keep the match level.
On the other end, Agnes Fabiola Banda also made some good saves coupled with some silly misses from the ZANACO frontline, the match was looking like it was headed for a draw.
Mercy Mwenya after some failed crosses finally channeled her inner David Beckham and produced a fantastic cross which was finished off beautifully by Ruth Ngoma for her second of the match a minute to full time.
Ngoma was arguably the best on the day. Midfielder Regina Chanda was also brilliant in the middle of the park for ZANACO Ladies before being taken off late in the second half after an injury.
INDENI LEAVE IT LATE
Before kick off , Indeni Roses were expected to run riot against the newly promoted National Assembly but that was not the case.
Assembly held their own against the Smart Roses and it took a late Ngosa Chabwe goal to seal the win.
The former Nkwazi forward has continued to be the go to person for goals for Indeni and she is expected to play a key role in their campaign.
DOUBLE MARY
At Nkoloma Stadium, Mary Mukupa and Mary Mambwe scored a goal each as Red Arrows welcomed Konkola Blades Queens to the Eden University Women’s Super League.
The Airwomen off to a good start for the season.
Zambia U20 Women’s National Team striker Ruth Muwowo scored on her Super League debut as Amazing Grace played to a 2-2 draw with Chipata Girls away at DK Stadium.
