Red Arrows Women Football Club has started the 2019/20 Football Association of Zambia(FAZ) Women’s League Campaign on a high note, this was after they Edged Green Eagles Women Football Club 3-0 in a game that was played on Tuesday at Lusaka Club.
A Brace from Zambia National Women’s Soccer Team Forward Hellen Mubanga and a Goal from super substitute Macrina Daka was all that the Air Women needed to claim maximum 3 Points over The ZNS Sponsored side who lacked the killer instinct up front as the likes of Racheal Moono, Saiduna Mumba and Amira Njobvu were kept at bay by a resolute Arrows Defence led by Captain of the side Rebecca Nyirenda who partnered with Elizabeth Nachivula and backed by the experienced Margaret Belemu and the smart Doreen Mwaseba on the right and left-back respectively made sure Jane Muntambo who never had so much work to do was well covered in goal for Arrows.
Prisca Chilufya who provided two assists which led to Mubanga’s brace could have also scored because she was also a thorn in the Eagles area but great cover at the back from Trastina Kasiya who was very good with aerial balls, the hardworking Elizabeth Mutale and on the sides with Esnart Sibanda on the right and Deborah Changwe on the made things a bit difficult for Dauchu Ochumba who replaced Mubanga after she was stretched off almost scored but was unlucky.
Credit must also go to the Eagles goalie Bianca Nyirenda who put up some excellent and decent saves to deny Arrows with more goals behind her net.
The most action and battle line was in the middle of the park were Arrows dominated play, Milika Limwanya was a hard nut to crack for the airwomen together with Iless Phiri and Mulai Wilombe was given so much space as a result she managed to be so mobile in a free role during the game with great runs including Mary Mulenga who was later introduced in the second half was equally good providing cover in the midfield and cut out the supply line for Eagles by ensuring no chance is given to the likes of Tamara Mbewe, Joyce Sikamungo and Loveness Malunga who did not come to the party as they failed to command their area.
Natasha Nanyangwe who was later introduced in the second half brought more life for Eagles side and the complexion of the game changed with great combination with Sibanda on the right side of the pitch with Doreen being made to work in some instances but she stood her feet and was strong at the back.
Full-time scores were 3-nil in favor of Arrows.
Elsewhere at Lusaka’s Showgrounds, National Assembly Women Football Club was too powerful for the League Debutants Mapani Queens who have been welcomed to the Elite Women’s League with a 19-0 scoreline.
The Parliamentarians run riot on matchday 1 with Norin Betani scoring a Double Brace putting 6 past Mapani Goalkeeper, Grace Kamanga picked up from where she left off in the previous season scoring 5 goals, Nawa Mafulo had a Quadtrick while Elina Mbewe had a Hatrick with Dorothy Lungu scoring a goal to complete a 19-nil scoreline for the Coach Elofy ‘Dela’ Kutayaya drilled side.
At Yasa Grounds in Hellen Kaunda, Garden Youth Succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at the Hands of Yasa Queens who found the back of the net through Botswana National Team Midfielder Michelle Abueng, Florence Kasonde and Eunice Simfukwe to make sure the Coach Tafara Phiri and Mervis Nachinga side start the league on a positive note.
Bauleni United Sports Academy and Cabana Stars played out to a Goalless draw at Prince Takamado School Ground in the afternoon Kick-Off to wrap up Today’s action.
