When Kalusha came off the bench to score against Liberia

Former Chipolopolo captain and 1988 African Footballer Kalusha Bwalya this week gave a ‘throw back and shared this video of the goal he scored when he came off the bench as coach to score against Liberia.

“Do you remember this World Cup qualifier vs Liberia at Independence Stadium, Lusaka on the 4th of September 2004? Almost 11 years ago? I was coach at the time and came off the bench to score this free kick. What a day!!,” Kalusha wrote on his facebook page.

  1. I was at the stadium (GATE D) at day when Great Kalu now DICTATOR Kalusha Bwalya scored that fantastic free kick. The stadium was tense and one could feel it. Frustrated soccer fans were planning to riot and and destroy independence stadium! There was so much relief when he scored!

  3. I have been nothing cynical in my posts of recent. Kalu here reminding everyone that they chanted his name so strongly. I dont know what his/Fazs ambitions and goals are and how he intends to achieve them, it’s a mystery. That is the problem and it is late in the day.

  4. And the point of putting up this(video) is? To destruct the facts? The facts of his failed leadership and manoeuvrings the FAZ constitution so he could be the life Faz President? Folks, there is no question that Kalu was a great footballer,we won’t take that away from him, but we are not going to be fooled by his antiques and drink his koolaid again. He has failed in his leadership and its time to for him to go. These are the last kicks of a dying horse. We don’t need you anymore dictator. Go and enjoy your life in South Africa.

  5. WHAT A PLAYER HE WAS. VERY DISCIPLINED HE WAS STILL A GOOD EVEN IN HIS LATE 30S WHICH MOST OF OUR CURRENT PLAYERS HAVE FAILED

  6. TO MY BELIEVE, ZAMBIA DONT NEED THIS AT ALL FROM KALUSHA..
THIS IS AN OLD NEWS..THE ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL FEDERATION NEEDS
A SHAKE UP, WHEREBY, FAZ PRESIDENTS LIVES IN ANOTHER COUNTRY AND ALWAYS
BEEN CLUED BY TELEPHONE…THIS IS REDICULOUS..

THIS -( AT CAKE )- NEWS FROM KALUSHA IS PAST NEWS,, THE CHIPOS ARE NOT GOOD AT THE MOMENT..MANKIND LIVES TODAY AND TOMOROW NOT PAST NEWS..
    PAST NEWS ARE HISTORY.

I PERSONALLY DONT SEE THE REASON WHY KAMBWILY CANT MAKE A SHAKE UP IN FAZ ADMINISTRATIONS..GHANAIANS SEES FAZ IN A SHUTTER POSITION AND IT
    HAVE AFFECTED THE CHIPO PLAYERS..

!!-A WORD TO THE WISE -IS ENOUGH-!!

    • We do appreciate your contributions Kwame Nkrumah. You are truly son of Africa with genuine heart. It is sad that we Africans tend to pull each other down instead of helping one another. The thing we forget is that when one of the African teams is representing Africa badly, people who are less informed about Africa think it is the whole Africa performing bad. No wonder you will meet people and tell you that I am going to visit Africa. To them Africa is a country and not a continent. We need to criticize each other constructively so that we send strong candidates to the world cup. When one of our candidates does well, the whole Africa will rejoice and walk proudly especially if you are in diaspora.
      Viva Africa!!!Long live Africa!!!

  7. Kalu ubulimi bwakale tabutalalika mwana, if he can bring the same pitch brilliance administratively then he can be near perfect.

  8. Tell me one Zambian adminstrator who has presided over one of the most succesful periods in Zambian football and i will show you one KALU.We all have our flaws but that should not be exaggerated over our strengths.hate or love him, kalu remain a versatile, yes very crude (Sometimes necessary) but well focused leader .And i can bet you my life, they are very few former footballers with his abilities. No wonder he never bothers to respond to such cheap inuendos as witnessed on this forum by those who have sworn to constantly be opposed to him.Call me a Kalu cadre or whatever,i will criticize him when it necessary..the worst football adminstrator?i doubt the sanity of those who claim that!A bit of flash back under KALU as an admisntrator…
1.First quarter final berth after 12 years of first round exits in Angola

2.First AFCON cup win and champions of Africa after over 40 years of trying

3.First ever qualification to a world cup tournament by a women team under 17

4.First ever qualification by our boys under 17 to an African tournament

5.Managed to bring the first ever hosting of the next AFCON under 20 tournament

6.Improved training for local coaches with almost all prominent club coaches at all levels having gone through some form of formal training organized by FAZ.
7.An improved league structure with increased sponsorship from MTN and Supersports and increased fan attendance.

Please note that Government does not fund all the other National teams except the senior national team, this therefore means FAZ has to source their own funds to camp the women teams, junior teams for men and even source air tickets for their travels and allowances.Under such circumstances,it is normal to experience some form of logistic and other challenges. We all face them in our duties and life. For those insinuating mishandling of funds on team assignments,be informed that Government handles and attaches an official from the Ministry of Sports/Finance to handle all payments each time the senior team travels. No funds are given directly to FAZ!@Kwame Nkrumah..We heard of serious scandals with your associations (recently in Brazil) which should not make you a suitable barometer for or authority on Zambian football admin!

    • THANK U FOR UR MAJESTIC REFERENCES TO KWAME , KNOWING MR AMOS MUMBU CAPTURES AND KNOWS WHAT GHANAIAN SPORTS ARE DOING IN GHANA BY READING GHANAIAN SPORTS NEWSPAPPERS..

FIRST AND FOREMOST,U-AMOS- REALLY KNEW WHAT HAPPENED,, THE DISASTERS THAT THE GHANA BLACK STARS ENCOUNTERD IN BRAZIL..

KWAME DONT HESITATES OF PROVING SUMTIN BAD OR GOOD TO A COUNTRY LIKE ZAMBIA. DURING THE BRAZIL CRISIS, , THE GHANA GOVT OPENED COMMITEE TO LOOK
WHAT HAPPENNED THAT THE GHANA BLACK STARS MISCHIEFS TO THE WORLD CUP BY NOT PROGRESSING TO THE QUARTERS..

THE COMMITEE FOUND THREE PLAYERS ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE BLACK STARS DISASTER OF –MONEY IN MIND–BUT NOT HELPING GHANIAN LAURELS IN CAPTURING THE WORLD CUP.. THE COMITEE CALLED THE THEN FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATIVES TO THE COMMITEE INCLUDING -AKWASI NYANTAKYI AND HIS ASSOCIATES OF THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AND SPORTS AND SOME OF THE PLAYERS INCLUDING THE CAPTAIN OF THE BLACK STARS–ASAMOAH GYAN-..

IT CAME INTO A CONCLUTION THAT AFTER 8 MONTHS OF DELIBERATIONS, THREE PLAYERS WERE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THAT DISASTER, BEING– MICHAEL ESSIEN, PRINCE BOATENG AND SULLEY MUNTARI THINKING OF MONEY -PURCHASING POWER-
THAN TO PLAY FOR GHANA..THESE THREE PLAYERS HAVE BEEN XCLUDED FROM THE BLACK STARS..

MR MUMBI, I DONT MEAN ANY HARM TO FAZ ADMINISTRATION ,, BUT WAT I MEANT WAS TO ASK FOR THE SAME PROCESS THAT GHANA DID TO THE XCLUDING OF THESE THREE PLAYERS FROM THE BLACK STARS..

I PERSONALLY DONT SEE THE REASON WHY A ZAMBIAN HEAD OF FOOTBAL ASSOCIATION LIVES IN ANOTHER COUNTRY AND ONLY CLUED BY TELEPHONE TO WHAT IS HAPENNING TO HIS ASSOCIATION..

I WAS NOTICED KAMBWILLY IS OUT OF OFFICE, SO WHAT IS THE NEXT OF KING OF FAZ GOING TO DO TO STRENGTHEN THE CHIPOS AND THEIR COACHES??

THERE MUST BE A COMMITEE TO NOTICE WHO IS DOING GOOD OR BAD MR MUMBI.
WHAT ZAMFOOT IS SHOWING TO READERS IS A HISTORY TO ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL BY KALU..HIS TIME IS GONE, ITS HISTORY..MANKIND LIVES FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW.
HOPE WE COULD ALL GET INTO A CONCLUTION THAT,, THERE HAVE TO BE SUMTIN DONE TO THE TOP OF THE LADDER..

MAY GOD BLESS AFRICA AND ITS PEOPLE..MR MUMBI, GOOD WEEKEND..

      • @kwame Nkrumah. I must highlight to you that our national team is funded by Government. The process is such that they do not release any funds directly to the Association but pay straight for the services(E.g Air tickets, hotel accommodation ,allowances etc). All travel arrangements are done by the Ministry of Sports in conjunction with our Association and the Ministry of Finance.Due to bureaucratic tendencies within the the government funding processes ,sometimes our Association is left hopelessly waiting for Government to release funds to facilitate for such issues like travel on time or even payment of allowances.FAZ is caught between a soft and hard stone because they are by principle not supposed to put any blame on government for such shortcomings lest they step on important toes. They end up swallowing the blame. If kalu has such serious short comings as you and others are trying to portray about him,i can assure you Government would not have hesitated to come in and i believe other sponsors would have put their feet down.
The FAZ presidency is a voluntary work with no salary and does not require kalu to spend his entire time in Zambia. After all the Association has a full time compliment of staff that over sees the day to day running of the secretariat. For your own information,South Africa is only less than an hour flight from Zambia and kalu is seen weekend in and out at all the major club games in Zambia.

Despite all his short comings, kalu has devoted his entire life to Zambian football culminating into that historical AFCON Cup triumph and you cant take away that from his C.V !

    • ba Mumba on 2. First AFCON cup win, I totally disagree with you. It was destiny , even I if where the FA president by then we would won that cup and I would have a hero by today and you cant change destiny , How about 1978, and when we wired Italy 4-0 was that a friendly match? in 1994 was it not Teddy Mulonga correct me on that one when we reached finals just after plan crush and may there souls rest in peace. your first and second points are baseless brotherman. and on number 6 why having graduation ceremonies when you can’t employ your graduates ? Your Musolini Kalu has taken our football to dogs. He is the same person who said Janza has earned himself a contract for just qualifying the team to AFCON them Adof Amin Kalu said Janza is not qualified then what? Is he taking us for a ride? How do you disband a team just because they said they want there due.? That dictatorship , please spare us two terms are enough for your lord we don’t need him, infact tell him to come back to Zambia he love this country. Wake up brother man before its too late though it already late

      • Destiny?Really!@Noble Eagles. hard work, planning and resilience are the key to success.Yes kalu is not saint but to ignore what Zambia has attained under his leadership is utter deliberate amnesia or plain hatred.I condemned him for picking Janza as our coach and i will still criticize him if he makes mistakes in future but i will not be brainless in my view of issues.

Zambian football challenges is a culmination of so many things that include poor club management structures except for a few well sponsored sides, lack of youth programmes by clubs, lack of proper club sponsorship and of recent times,a lack of depth and quality of good players in the league.

Janza was given the platform to prove himself but he has scampered it.You dont start building a team for the future when you have just been offered an interim role as a coach.Long term plans within a short term contract! He is clueless to say the least and he cant blame anyone. He should have used his motivation skill to work with senior players instead of fighting them because he had no time to build a team for AFCON.

As long as Government does not fund women soccer, all youth national teams, the challenges of allowances for these categories will continue.During our days when playing youth football,we even use to buy our own football boots. These youths including the women should use these opportunities to market themselves for big money moves because there is just no extra funding here for these categories!
