After each round of the Zambian Super League Fixtures, the ZamFoot Crew brings you it’s Team of Weekend.
Our panel of experts which includes top coaches, journalists and fans carefully selects the ZamFoot XI plus coach of the week.
Formation: 3:4:3
Goalkeeper: Rabson Mucheleng’anga (Napsa Stars).
Playing against his former team, the man his former Chiparamba youth teammates call ‘Dida’ produced arguably his best game in recent time.
He made point blank saves including that one on one against Fwayo Tembo.
There was also two world class saves he made.
Though it took Jimmy Ndhlovu’s shot to beat him late in the game, Mucheleng’anga has rightly earned his spot.
Defender: Billy Mutale (Power Dynamos) – There’s general feeling among Power fans that the boy from Kalulushi is maturing into a centre back many are hoping for.
Over the weekend, he had a tough shift against Napsa duo Chitiya Mususu and Chaibela.
Defender: Isaac Shamujopa (Nchanga Rangers) – Solid defending from the Nchanga strongman. He was good in the air and very steady on one on one situations.
He crowned when he came from centre back to take a long throw on the left which was only half cleared by Nkana for his captain to control and steer a shot past Malunga.
Nchanga Rangers got him from Kalulushi Modern Stars last season.
Defender: Joseph Ochaya (Lusaka Dynamos) – Slightly gets the nod ahead of the Buildcon’s Congolese left back who impressed at Ucar Chitalu Stadium in the 3-5-2.
Lumwana Radiants’ Chiyesu Sakafunya also impressed.
Ochaya was solid at the back and composed.
Alex Mwamba and Ziyo Tembo of Napsa Stars and Zanaco respectively were also close in making the ZamFoot XI as defenders.
Right Wing Back: Siame Musonda (Lumwana Radiants) – the Zambia U20 star had a great game for Lumwana on the right wing. Very good ball skills and mixed his game very well with runs wide on the flank and at times cut through the centre of attack.
He is in the team for a second week running.
Left Wing Back: Stanley Nshimbi – The speedy winger is looking his old self again.
Always looking dangerous on the ball when attacking. He did well to help his team by offering some good balance when tracking back.
Not his classic goal but his persistence paid back as he put the goalkeeper under pressure on a back pass to win the ball and finish with an easy tap in.
Second Striker: Mwila Phiri (Green Eagles) – Edges out Fwayo Tembo in the free role after capping his performance with a goal against the Champions Zanaco.
Striker: Roy Sakwanda (City of Lusaka) – The City Ya Moto captain led the line well and scored his side’s third goal on the half volley in Monday’s 4 -1 demolishing of Mufulira Wanderers at Shinde Stadium.
Player of the Week: Rabson Mucheleng’anga (Napsa Stars) – He made five top class saves and his distribution was spot.
The former Nchanga Rangers and Power Dynamos shot stopper might just force his way back into the national team set up should he add consistent to his game.
Coach of the Week: Manfred Chabinga (Green Eagles) – He side stunned Zanaco with a 2-1 win over.
In Sautu and Mwila Phiri, he has two players any of the big 5 clubs would welcome in their side.
Green Eagles is the only club with a 100% record in the league.
Interesting run down.
Fantastic, this what we asked for, and we even more than expected.
Team sponsors need scouts need take advantage of Zamfoot.
This will turn out to be the most competitive of seasons.I can assure you that very few if not none of the players in this week’s team will make it in next week’s because of the massive talent.
Am impressed with the massive talent coming through. Manfred Chabinga seems to be a goid coach. Mufulira wanderers should be regretting after dumping him. Keep up the good work Zamfoot.
Nice work ba Zamfoot. Loving these round ups and gives a great look at who is hot in the league
