We will work hard to top the group – Belemu

Copper Queens right back Margaret Belemu says the team will work hard to win the remaining games to top the group.

Belemu put in an impressive shift against the Lionesses of Cameroon and was named as the player of the match.

The team was without skipper Barbra Banda who is out due to medical reasons and Belemu admitted that they missed their star forward but they had to motivate each other.

“I really feel happy, I am so grateful to God for granting me this opportunity and coming out as the player of the match against Cameroon because it was not easy,” she said.

“Yes, I would say the absence of our captain Barbra Banda has affected us but we just encouraged each other so that we can make her and ourselves proud.

” Yes, definitely, I will say this with confidence we are here for the Cup, we want to go to the World Cup. At senior level, we have never been there. This game has given us the confidence to do better in the next game.”

“We are going to work extra hard so that we can win the next games and top the group, that’s our target,” she added.

The Copper Queens played out to a goalless draw with Cameroon and will next face Tunisia on Wednesday in their second game.

The WAFCON is being used as a qualifier to the 2023 New Zealand/Australia FIFA Women’s World Cup where the top four teams in Morocco will qualify for the event.
