Chad coach Kevin Nicaise says a point away to Zambia was a very good result to take into the reverse fixture on Tuesday in Yaoundé.
Reacting to the 0-0 away draw at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium between the Chipolopolo and Les Sao, Nicaise said his charges were in a good position to pick maximum points at home.
“We wanted to win to take the second place (in the group) but if you analyze the game, 0-0 away from home, in Zambia here with the condition with the supporters and everything for a team like us, it is a good point,” he said.
“We were strong, I am really proud of my players the way they have been fighting today, we have stuff to do better now to win. I am really happy about the mentality, this point is going to give us confidence for the future especially with a young team like us. I am confident for the future, it is a good base for us.”
The Belgian born Chadian national said the home support would be crucial in carrying maximum points at home.
“At home we can have the advantage of the pitch and the supporters, we are really asking our supporters to come and support us,” he said.
He added: “About the game, of course Zambia is a top team, they are in the top 100, we have to respect them but every game has to be played so we will give everything on Tuesday. Today we go back with confidence in hearts. On Tuesday, we are going to give everything for our country.”
Nicaise said the reverse fixture will present different dynamics for both teams.
“It is another game, another day, everything is open,” he said.
The Chipolopolo drew with Chad to maintain second spot in Group G on four points. Table toppers Coted’Ivoire thumped Sierra Leone to go to nine points while Chad moved to third place with two points with the Leone Stars rooted at one point.
Zambia and Chad face off on Tuesday in Yaounde in the reverse fixture with Coted’Ivoire away to Sierra Leone who play in Monrovia.
