Perry Mutapa: We should learn to manage games

Zesco United came from behind to beat Power Dynamos 2-1 and end Abayellow’s ABSA cup ambitions.

Speaking to the ZamFoot Crew, after the match, Power Dynamos head coach Perry Mutapa said his team needs to find the right balance. He believes his team should avoid conceding after taking a lead to win games where they score first.

“I’m very happy especially with the performance but obviously we allowed Zesco United to come back into the game but the pressure is part of the game, the biggest challenge I think you can see the two games against Green Buffaloes and Green Eagles I think it was a 0-0 draw and in the other results we scored first and we allowed the opponents to come back, so in terms of defending we are one of the least scored teams the organization is there but obviously if we allow teams especially when we score a goal to come back it means we have got a problem but overall when we don’t score we keep a clean sheet and when we score we allow the opponents to come back and win the game which is not good so it’s a job we have to work out the front line and at the back cause also again the front line we have to score maybe more than one goal for the back to play a normal game,” Mutapa said.

Mutapa stressed the importance of having being able to defend a lead as his team has lost and drawn multiple games from an advantageous position on a lead.

“I think we need to strengthen in the striking department and we have been dominating games yes like I have said against Lusaka Dynamos against, Kitwe United and against Zesco today we scored first there are games that we can win 1-0 because it’s an advantage if you score first so the three games we have been scoring first that should have been an advantage to us we should be able to manage the game and on the other hand I think the chances we create I think we should be scoring not less than two, three or four goals in every match, so we are going to work on that cause that’s our job,” he said.

“It tells that we need to manage the game very well cause if you score first it means you have an advantage I think maybe its the fear of maybe we have not won in the last five games and then you allow the opponents, after scoring to come and press you in your half so we just have to keep communicating if we score we must go for the second one today we tried and tried but we did not get the second goal but we should be able to keep the one nill lead to our advantage.”

“Whatever we have, We are going to work on it so with a game in hand now we are talking about Zanaco cause we are only 8 points behind Zanaco yes I can say the results have not been good but I think we are not very far away from the Top,” he added.

Mutapa wants to strengthen his team but was quick to say it’s not entirely up to him as he can only recommend.

“in terms of transfers, I think it’s a thing where you want to and it should be taken care of but the coach can only recommend, and then the rest is not on him.”

Luka Chamanga put Power in the lead in the sixth minute but Thabani Kamusoko equalized 20 minutes later before youngster Enock Sakala Jnr could come from the bench to seal a 2-1 win for Zega Mambo.
