We ready to face anyone – Copper Queens assistant Coach

Zambia Women’s National Team assistant Coach Florence Mwila says the team is ready to face anyone at the ongoing COSAFA Women’s Championship.

The Copper Queens sealed their place in the semi-finals following a 5-1 thumping of Comoros.

Zambia will face either Zimbabwe or Botswana but Mwila says they are ready to face anyone.

Mwila went on to reveal that the Girls underrated Comoros hence the slow start in the first half.

“Anyone, any team that qualifies, looking at the schedule it’s either Zimbabwe or Botswana but we are ready to face anyone,” she said.

“We started slow, the Girls really underestimated the opponents in the first and that’s why we even  conceded a goal. But coming into the second half they knew the task ahead of them, it was a must win game and also with a lot of goals.”

“Mozambique has won so had we not scored enough it would have been a gamble of who will qualify that I think they knew the task ahead and came back strong in the second half,” she added.

The two teams went to the break level at 1-1, but the Copper Queens came back to score four goals to win the match.

When asked what she told the players at halftime Mwila responded:We told them to take the game seriously and calm down. I think we could have scored more goals in the first half because we created a lot of chances but they were wasted.”

Natasha Nanyangwe and Jackline Nkole have been ruled out of the tournament due to injuries but Mwila feels the players available are equal to the task.

“Yes they did but we knew that the people who are there can chip in and we’re equal to the task like you saw today,” she said

“I think we have seen our areas of weakness and those are the ones we will be working on going into the semis because we will be facing tough teams.”

“It was important because it would have been embarrassing for the defending Champions to be eliminated in the group stage so we had to push and know why we were here, to defend the title and win games.

“We came with a new team so we knew that the group would not be easy like you have seen. Yes we have qualified but we pushed hard to win games and the confidence is going high for the new players. We see them scoring goals and getting hat-tricks, we know we are headed in the right direction,” she added.
