We could have done much better – Mutapa

Junior Chipolopolo Head Coach Osward Mutapa expressed happiness with his team’s 5-0 win over Botswana on Wednesday but feels that team could have scored more goals especially in the first half.

“I am satisfied with maximum points but I feel we could have done better especially in the first half, we created lots of chance which we should have turned into goals. The defense also had some lapses but as you all know football is about winning and scoring goals,” he told the Zamfoot crew.

“It is always important to win your first game as it usually sets the pace of the tournament. I am also happy that we got to score more goals as it will give more confidence to the strikers going into the next game.”

Zambia started their match against Botswana on high and took the lead after five minutes, Francisco Mwepu finishing off a Prince Mumba pass to put the host nation in the lead. Defender Crawford Mwaba netted a spectacular bicycle in the 34th minute to make sure Zambia went to the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Napsa Stars starlet Jimmy Mukeya took over the show in the second half as he netted twice first from a Francisco Mwepu assist and then finishing off a perfectly timed cross from second-half substitute Golden Yamikani Mashata. Jumulo striker Ricky Banda came from the bench to score the fifth and final goal in the afternoon concluding what was an emphatic display from the young Copper Bullets.

Zambia next plays Comoros Islands at Nkoloma Stadium on Saturday 7th December 2019.
