Nicknamed the female Computer, Ireen Lungu has been showing why at the ongoing 2022 COSAFA Women’s Champions League, Zonal qualifiers in Durban.
Fresh from playing well in an unfamiliar defensive midfield role with the Copper Queens in Morocco she is back to one of her favorite positions as an attacking midfielder and seems to be breaking no sweat in leading Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club to back to back wins.
Lungu has been in fine form and easily the best player of the tournament so far and the midfielder received the highest form of praise from her coach.
Following her dominant performance in Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Olympique de Moroni, Charles Haalubono admitted that his team was lucky to have the midfield magician as she is an intelligent player who does not need a lot of coaching.
“Ireen Lungu has been our main player for some time now. Last season we suffered because she had a long injury and now she is back playing very well,” he said.
“She is a girl who you don’t have to coach a lot , she is intelligent and knows what to do with the ball. She is a very sharp general player. I think we are lucky to have her.”
“She is also a utility player, you can play her even on the wings and on top, she is a key player for us,” he added.
Lungu netted three times on Tuesday as Buffaloes thrashed Moroni 4-0 to book a place in Saturday’s final awaiting the winner of group A.
Lungu was named the player of the match for her overall impressive showing in the match and walked away with the match after scoring the first hat-trick of the tournament.
(The Pink) Buffaloes Women team have wjat it takes to win the Cosafa and tje Agrican Cup.
Their defence is solid and very composed.
Their midfield is ticking like clockwork.
To play like a well-oiled machine or the play like a well-drilled battallion, the coaching bench just needsto talk to Chanda and Chewe. Those 2 girls need to be composed in front of goal. They fluff too many chances and in a highly techical game once you miss, you pay for it as the other team will punish you.
I agree with @Kasama Boy. The GBFC girls missed a lot of chances though they scored 4 unanswered goals. I was impressed with the way they play their game. Lovely passing game and diamonds just need to put away their chances.
