Wada ready for call-up: Ex-Chipolopolo coach can’t let nation down if summoned

Coach Wedson Nyirenda is humbled that a number of soccer fans have called on the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to consider him for the Chipolopolo top job and he is ready to honour national duty if summoned.

And Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu said if FAZ settles for a local coach, he should be offered the same salary that was given to Aljosa Asanovic of Croatia.

Asanovic, who resigned last Sunday citing alleged contractual breaches by his employer FAZ, was getting US$25,000 per month.

In an interview from Beira, Mozambique, yesterday, Nyirenda said the Chipolopolo job is national duty

  1. We don’t need these failed projects or Nyirenda and Lwandamina. We need someone new, we have young local coaches with budges and hungry for success. FAZ let’s give the young coaches a chance like Chisi Mbewe

  2. It’s unfortunate that I don’t see that much of experienced, exposed and energetic local coaches. Its true also that coaches like ba Lwandamina can concentrate elsewhere other than national team. There is need to give chance to exposed young coaches unfortunately I don’t see much. Pery Mutapa having played in SA for good time and ya pa zedi,Christ Katongo yes,Davis Phiri former goalie, Sichone, not knowing thier convictions. One thing seriously to be avoided I’d giving a local coach club and national duty that compromises quality work

  3. Zambian football needs a local coach….the zambia national team has to play zambian football in order to pose a threat to other teams or even to be competitive. Just look at the way Zambia played against Algeria in the WQC in 2017 when we won 3-1…that was pure zambian football at it’s best..PACE, SKiLL and aggression in attack…look at the game we played cameroon in Ndola when we drew 2-2 in that same competition….we could have won by more that 6 in that game but the cameroonian keeper was in fine form that day….in all these games we played simple 4-4-2. I think wedson Nyirenda wasn’t given enough time…and having almost got us to the world cup that year, he might be the ideal candidate at the moment. We want our team to be dangerous in attack and hard to break down…in the last 5rys, wada is the only coach who was able to create that combo. Just look at the way the copper queens are doing with bruce mwape….simple Zambian football but hard to play against and not easy to beat when assembled with the right players. We need to trust ourselves more and complain less…i hope someone at FAZ sees this post…

    • This coach is a complete waste of time… He tickled us with the game in Algeria and yet failed the nation. With the falling football standards in the midst of a mountain of talent, I doubt he is the type of confusion the nation needs right now..
