The forthcoming ABSA Cup final, scheduled to take place this Saturday at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka, may incorporate the utilisation of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology.
This announcement was made in FAZ President Andrew Kamanga’s weekly update, highlighting the introduction of a technological element to the highly anticipated event.
The final will feature a captivating clash between FC MUZA and Forest Rangers as they vie for the prestigious trophy.
Kamanga expressed enthusiasm regarding the upcoming 2023 ABSA Cup, proclaiming it to surpass all previous editions in terms of magnitude.
He acknowledged the unfortunate need to reschedule the original date due to circumstances beyond their control.
Anticipating an exhilarating finale, Kamanga emphasised that the validity of tickets purchased prior to the change in venue remains intact, instilling confidence in a memorable final on Saturday.
From a footballing perspective, the aim is to introduce a trial implementation of technological advancements during the final, seeking to establish a lasting legacy for this year’s edition, transcending mere victory for the eventual champions.
In the semifinals, FC MUZA emerged triumphant with a 1-0 victory over Trident, a team hailing from the North Western Province.
Forest Rangers, on the other hand, secured their place in the final by defeating Power Dynamos, courtesy of a late Cephas Mulombwa header.
The champions of this highly lucrative competition, boasting a prize pool of 4.4 million, will be awarded K700,000, while the runners-up will receive K350,000.
Furthermore, several additional accolades will be presented, including the Coach of the Tournament, Player of the Tournament, and Man of the Match awards, each carrying a value of K25,000.
