Vandenbroek recalls Kalaba, Sinkala

Zambia national soccer team coach Sven Vandenbroek has recalled former Chipolopolo Boys captain Rainford Kalaba to the national team ahead of the Cameroon 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Nambia.

And the Belgian coach is back from Europe and is scheduled to announce his squad to face Namibia on Friday at 09h00 at Football House.

In a leaked squad list to face Namibia in September, there’s also a place for another African Cup of Nations winner Nathan Sinkala.

Sinkala last featured for Zambia in a Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in 2016.

For Kalaba, he fell out with former Chipolopolo Boys coach Wedson Nyirenda in 2017.

It will interesting to see if the TP Mazembe winger will return the arm band.

Joining the Congolese based trio are goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene from Sundowns and Orlando Pirates duo Augustine Mulenga and Justin Shonga from South Africa.

From Europe, French Ligue 2 side Metz’s Stopilla Sunzu is joined by Austrian based duo Paston Daka and Enock Mwepu from Red Bull Salzburg.

Vandenbroeck who spent the past week in his native Belgian watched KV Oostende duo Fashion Sakala and Emmanuel Banda in training.

While Fashion is in the squad, there are concerns over Banda’s fitness levels as he has been in and out of the team.

  2. Great Move coach! its better to try all the ammunition at your disposal.Lets leave no stone unturned,we have had too many stories of going to the drawing board.Sven has shown great maturity in bringing back experience which in my view should blend very well with the younger ones! I can only wish the boys the very best in Windhoek.

  4. The guys that have been recalled must prove to us that they can still play at that level. It is not a matter of names anymore. This time around we need players that can perform for Mother Zambia, not ati this is what we wanted.

  5. We told wada to include kalaba and fwayo and Cletus, he refused and the results were loses. Good for kalaba, we hope Cletus and fwayo will pick up form as well.

  6. If i was Kalaba i would refuse. It is no use to be desperate as a country. Just ride the wave, probably we will have enough to qualify with or without Kalaba.
