U20 Afcon: Amajita blow two goal lead as Senegal go top of group B

South Africa blew a chance to join Zambia in the semi finals of the on going U20 Africa Cup of Nations when they gave away a 2 – 0 lead to lose 4 – 3 to Senegal.

The U20 Cosafa Cup finalists looked to have picked up from where they ended in the first game which saw them beat Cameroon 3 – 1 as they went ahead as early as the first minute through Jordan Liam.

They extended the lead from the spot in the 24th minute through Malepe before Senegal started the come-back after the break.

Ibrahima Ndiaye first powered home a header in the 48th minute followed be a quick brace from Calvin Diagne in the 54th and 60th minutes.

Cameroon put the tie beyond reach when Diatta scored a 4th 10 minutes later.

Tournament top scorer Luther Singh pulled one back for his fourth of the tournament after he showed composure and skill to run into the box and finish off from close range with the keeper thinking he would square the ball.

In the earlier game, Cameroon recovered from the loss to South Africa and went on to beat Sudan 4 – 1.

The match day 2 results leave group B wide open with each of the four teams having a chance to qualify.

Senegal lead the group on four points with South Africa and Cameroon on three points while Sudan are bottom of the group with one point.

South Africa play Sudan on Sunday while Cameroon play Senegal.

Any team that wins is guaranteed a spot in the semi finals.

Group A leaders Zambia will await the second placed team in Group B for a semi final show down in Lusaka.

  1. Senegal Cammeroon are walk overs, South Africa should be put in her rightful place always behind Zambia. Sudan will be shown that once a bullet always a copper bullet.
