U17 take on Nigeria: We have no plans of coming back home early

Zambia Under Seventeen Captain, Patson Daka has assured the nation that his lads will not fear, Nigeria when the two countries meet this evening in a crucial must win match for the junior Chipolopolo. Daka who scored a goal in the 2-1 win by Zambia over Niger, said his friends are all now focused on delivering Zambia’s maiden appearance at the World, which will be held in Chile later this year.

“We are not scared of Nigeria. We have seen that they may be bigger in stature but what matters in football is not the size of the player but his mental capabilities. Zambia has the mental strength and resilience needed in such a game” Daka concluded.

Assistant Captain, Enock “Computer” Mwepu is also confident that Zambia is still in Niger until the last day of the 11th edition of the Africa Cup. Mwepu who had an excellent game on Wednesday, says the last thing the team would do is to underrate their opponents.

“I know Nigeria has a big name and may have a better record over Zambia generally but we the new players in Zambian football want to break the perceived Nigerian superiority over Zambia. This evening will be tough but that’s what football is about and we are prepared to go all the way and win this match” said the Kafue Celtic midfielder.

And Musonda Siame says he has no plans of returning home prematurely after this evening’s match.

“When leaving home, I told my family to expect me in March. So today all my energies will be aimed at making sure that Zambia stays here in Niger until last day of the finals” Siame explained.

And Coach, Chris Kaunda has re assured the nation that the absence of defenders, Prosper Chiluya and Edward Chimfwembe has already been taken care of. Kaunda says the team has been preparing for this tournament for almost two years and as such, has enough depth to tap from in case of a situation like now.

Speaking to @fazfootball.com after the team’s final training at the match Venue, Kaunda was sure that Zambia would carry the day today. However he hastened to say that Nigeria are not in Niger as tourists but as equal competitors.

“We have played against Nigeria before and we have watched their games here in Niger. As a bench we are aware of their strengths and their weaknesses and we shall exploit their weaknesses and handle their strengths competently” Kaunda said. The two defenders have accumulated two yellow cards and are not eligible to play in today’s crucial decider.

All the players that had injuries in Wednesday’s game are eligible for inclusion in the starting line-up after the team Doctor Gocha Kapoba, declared a clean bill of health for the team.

Zambia is placed third in group A, with three points after two games. Nigeria leads the pack with four points, followed by Guinea with the same number of points, but with an inferior goal difference. Hosts Niger have zero.

The Chipolopolo Youth need an outright win to guarantee them a place at the semi-finals and get an automatic qualification to the FIFA World Cup in Chile later this year. The 11th edition of the Africa U17 championship in Niger runs from 15th February to 2nd March. The tournament also serves as qualifiers for the FIFA U17 World Cup which Chile will host later this year. The semi-finalists qualify for the world cup.

Kick off for this match is at 19:30 Zambian time at the Municipal Stadium in Niamey.

  1. My friend @ NONI. Better start walking naked now because Zambia is defiantly beating Nigeria. look at facts Nigeria won Afcon but failed to qualify to defend.Nigeria won the U17 world cup and will fail to qualify to defend.

  2. its dangerous to declare to walk naked before the match is played. Zambia has nothing to lose in this match and therefore won’t defend. We shall put pressure on Nija defense today!

  3. the chance is Zambia and Nigeria may qualify in that order … to declare to walk naked is show of not understanding football … the fact that Guinea beat Zambia by a lone goal but drew with Nigeria does not imply Zambia is the weeping boy between the two but a serious warning to other teams … even Niger despite losing their opening two games can beat Guinea who beat and drew with Zambia their conquerors … and that is the beauty of football, the result in many cases is only known after the second-half …. meanwhile … granting Zambia all the success … Nigeria has already tested the top most price at World stage and so I wish our level 3 Young Chipolopolo greater success … apparently this could be the best Under 17 Zambia has ever produced … already they have broken records won the Cosafa with no scratch winning all matches (6) conceding only 2 goals but scoring over 20 and then the first to qualify to an U17 CAF tourney … Go our young stars and shine the stamina of mother Zambia across the atlantic and pacific oceans … SHALOM

  5. I expect our boys to die a little and qualify for Chile. Zambia is a hot bed of talent it won’t take long before Europeans start to buy our players.

  6. Wow finally the last game of the group is here. It will be difficult for zambia to beat nigeria since Nigeria only need a draw to qualify(and also being the tourney’s favorite). But nothing is impossible in football.
Best of luck Golden eaglets, God be with u guys today, God bless Nigeria

  7. Man city already scouting one of the Nigeria u-17 player. This boy will get a chance to meet his brother chidiebere who also participated in the u-17 tournament in 2013 and also Iheneacho.
Manchester City Keeping Tabs On Kelechi Nwakali
SL10.ng understands that Manchester City are among clubs based in Europe keeping tabs on Golden Eaglets attacking midfielder Kelechi Nwakali at the ongoing CAF Under 17 Championship. The Golden Eaglets skipper would welcome the chance to join the Nigerians on the books of Manchester City, including his elder brother Chidiebere Nwakali and Kelechi Iheanacho.

  8. Goodnews for Naija europeans are already scouting for these our young gems. Just wait and watch world cup 2018 and Afcon 2019 most of the u-17 and u-20(2013 u-17 world champion) would have matured enough for the senior team.
Some of the last u-17 players and their current club: Kelechi Iheanacho – Man City
    Isaac Success – Granada
    Moses Simon – Gent
    Theophilus Solomon – Rijeka
    Wilfred Ndidi – Genk
    Kingsley Sokari – Enyimba
    Christian Pyagbara – Dolphins.

  10. FOOTBALL administrator Simataa Simataa has advised FAZ to invest in the Under-23 senior national team throughout the year and not only during tournaments.

Simataa observed that the Under-23 national team is almost non-existent and only re-appears when there is an assignment.

He said there was need to keep a constant Under-23 team which would in turn help produce players for the senior national team.

“This creates a problem for the coaches because they have to scrounge for players to call to the Under-23 team. If we had a team that is constantly in place, it would be easy and we would see our team making it to the All Africa and Olympic Games,” Simataa said.

He said players that graduate from the Under-20 should not be forgotten until the get into they senior team but should be kept busy in the Under-23 national team.

Simataa proposed that in order to have a reservoir of players at the Under-23, FAZ should establish provincial teams at junior levels.

He said the provincial teams could play each other on agreed dates to help the national team coach select the main group.

Under-23 coach Fighton Simukonda struggled to have a full team of players when he called players to camp in preparation for the All Africa Games and Olympics qualifiers.

Simukonda also had to include some Under-20 players to his team.

But Simataa observed that FAZ should invest in the team, not only during tournaments but throughout the year.

“The money is there, FAZ has the money to carry out this project. We have talent in all the provinces. It could also create jobs because each Under-23 team from each province would require coaches,” he said.

“It would also help the main Under-23 coach to have a wide selection of players to be included in the team. The goodwill is there. There are lot of companies that are ready to help out.”

  11. MANCHESTER CITY WILL HAVE A SECOND THOUGHT OF SIGNING THE NIGERIAN LAD WHEN THEY SEE HOW PATSON DAKA IS GOING TO TEAR APART THE NIGERIAN U17.

  12. Oh really @frank Nonde.
This nwakali boy that city is interested in has 2 goals already, 1 against niger and 1 against guinea. You boy has only 1 goal and couldn’t help ur team from losing to guinea same way Nwakali did.

  13. Patson daka is the deadliest striker in africa under 17! The overhyped Nigerians will cry if they underrate us. Patson daka was the top scorer in the qualifiers and he will be scouted by bigger clubs than man City like barcelona

  14. I am just wondering why big clubs in Zambia apart from Brave Rangers have no players in the current under 17 team. It is only Rangers that have 2 and yet the focus on this site is about the big parasite clubs. Power, Zesco, Zanaco and Nkana don’t you have U/14/17/20 etc. Wake up you idiots

  15. @justice kafushas hehehehe Lol. Cant stop laffing. Tell me why the beef against Nigeria. Has a nigerian man snatched away your wife?.. Oh I get it, you get jealous because of the names and numbers of young Nigerians making their country proud that I wrote up there.
But dude you shouldn’t start hating since this is what you want for your country also, all you have to do is to channel ur hatred into supporting your youth teams now, pray for them now and you hope for the best in future for them(same way we Nigerians are hoping for the best in 3 to 4 years from now).
Wishing you guys the best @Justice kafushas and Zambia.

  16. @John it is just a few hours to the game, let us wait and watch, we can only do the talking here, a lot will be decided on the field.
    NIGERIA vs ZAMBIA
    NWAKALI vs PATSON

  17. @John, man city is a clueless club signing every youth player who has been overhyped. Barcelona, ajax, man utd, feyernoord, southapton, santos, sao paulo academies are way ahead of ahead of man city academy.

  18. Funny you @John calling Nigeria overhyped at u-17. Pls can you tell me the meaning of overhype and please try to tell me how Nigeria is overhyped. Remember the overhyped team is currently leading that group.

  19. @justice i have no aspirations of becoming a proffesional footballer, to me it is just a hobby. All i was saying zambian players should not be intimidated by nigerian players playing for useless man city academy.

  20. @john maybe Nigeria winning their first game and drawing the second is what you termed as an overhyped team. But something similar and worse happened to Nigeria in 2013. We won our first game and lost the second against Ivory coast, we got to the final and met the same ivory coast again, we drew the match and lost the cup on penalty. 2013 Nigeria won 3 matches(2 group games and 1 semi final), lost 2(1 group match and final), yet the team went on to conquer the world.
Overhype indeed. If that is how an overhyped team perform, then I will prefer all my country teams whether youth or senior to be termed overhyped.

  21. Well @Alezz, no single nigerian player, playing in this tournament is foreigh based or playing club football. They are all from football Academies in the country. So no cause for fear or intimidation. Nigerian players are the one that should fear the zambians since they are already into club football.

  22. @John no Man city players in this team. Those ones have graduated into U-20. You are playing against young bloods from academies hungry to make a career for themselves and match the feat of the U-20 seniors.

  23. Nigeria with a population of over 180 million people still cannot dominate world football even though football is their main sport, thats what i call overated.

  24. If Zambia wins, nothing do us attentions will shift to the u-20 team while the coaching crews continue to groom the u-17 team.
If Nigeria win/draw, the fight continues and the quest for caf u-17 afcon cup continues.
    May the best team win.

  25. Alezz, you’ve forgotten that population do not matter in sport..
With your calculation India and China should be the first and second team in the world and asia. Russia should have dominating europe like it is their birth right, USA should have been reaching world cup finals and semi final7 every world cup year.
Football is not about population. Your population do not play football for you.

    • Then Cape Verde SHOULD never ever beat ZAMBIA is a football game . Uruguay should never be at the World Cup ahead of ZAMBIA. Please come again for your argument lacks any sense of reasoning .

  26. @justice I am dissapointed in your comment about Nigeria.calling them names says a lot about you.stick to football comments alone. Nigeria has done more for Africa football than Zambians.which I believ you will agree with me.

  27. As the build up to today’s game continues, let us look at thing that may/will happen with bloggers on zamfoot if:
    NIGERIA WINS
1: Some bloggers here will find fault in the pitch, blame caf for letting Niger host the tournament, blame west Africans.
2: some would blame the coach, faz, the players. HERVE RENARD won’t be left out, they would blame him as if he is responsible for the outcome.
3: some would call Nigeria cheats, age cheats, shout ebola and boko haram against Nigerians.
4: As the tournament progresses they would change their song and call the tournament useless, attack Nigerians here and ask them what they have achieved with their senior team after all these years of winning all these age grade tournament.

    IF ZAMBIA WINS:
1: You will see “I HAVE BEEN VINDICATED APOSTLEs”.
2: Bloggers here would start Zambians hyping the players like they’ve just won world cup.
3: Bloggers here would start transferring their players to top european clubs the likes of Barca, chelsea, arsenal right here on zamfoot
4: Bloggers would pick one or two players in the team and call them best in Africa even in the world, bloggers will liken them to current top players.
5: Bloggers would boast of winning the u-17 world cup in Chile after today’s game if they win today.
6: Bloggers would start their “Zambia is an African Powerhouse in football Gospel”. Ghana and Nigeria will suffer from coments of zambians. They would gladly call west African countries fluke.

Points from my observation of zamfoot bloggers over the past 2 years.
Goodluck Nigeria and Zambia. May the best team win.

  28. @ badosqi you are mocking the zamfoot bloggers? You seem afraid of the result of today’s game? I thought zambia were just minnows? Why are you worried if we are minnows and our players cannot play for man City you sit down relax and wait for the outcome of the game today which will be a Nigeria win.

  29. @John
MOCKING? Nope, all I wrote up there is an everyday occurence on zamfoot whenever zambia play a match. You will see extremely positive reactions when things go the zambia way and vice versa.
Afraid wetin? Why should any Nigerian be afraid of zambia is in u-17 level. Common!
Oh maybe bcos I haven’t dropped a comment that nigeria is winning today. Well disrespect here, but Nigeria is winning this match.
Minnows, well going through all my comments today there is no where I called you guys minnow but You said it yourself, well I wouldn’t know if you guys are minnows.
Funny thing here is that is you guys that are even putting your country name in the same context with minnow.

  30. Ba zamfoot why are my coments not seen nawadays? I have been posting several coments here bt I hardly see any of them. Otherwise we wish the young chipolopolo the best of lucky.
