U17 girls almost ready for World Cup qualifiers against Tanzania says coach Kanyemba

Zambia U17 Women’s National Team head coach Carol Kanyemba says the team is almost ready for the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup second round back-to-back qualifiers against Tanzania next month.

Kanyemba believes the work done so far is over 80 percent with the final week of preparations set to be used to fine tune the little things left.

Kanyemba was speaking after watching her side play a practice match with Blue Bullets Academy U14 boys at Edwin Imboela Stadium.

“This is our second week of training and we decided to have a training match with U14 boys to see how far we are. We were able to see the things we wanted like the movement of the ball. We will work on the simple mistakes we make in the final week,” she said.

“I think we are almost ready, we only have a few pieces just to finalise. We are left with just about 20 percent, we are getting there.”

Meanwhile defender Margaret Gondwe says the players are working hard and have showed a lot of commitment.

“The training is going well. We have been working  hard and showed a lot of commitment. We need to encourage each other so that we can perform in the game against Tanzania,” she said.

“We are confident we will do well. We need to listen to our coaches and follow their instructions.”

Zambia will host Tanzania on 3 February before travelling for the away fixture a week later. Winner over two legs will face Uganda or Cameroon in the third round.

Three African teams qualify for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held in the Dominican Republic after round four of the qualifiers.
