Triumphant Chipolopolo to return home this afternoon 

The Zambia National Team is expected back home this afternoon after successfully defending the COSAFA Championship. 

The Seven time COSAFA champions are expected to arrive in Lusaka at 12:30 via South African Airways. 

Zambia started their campaign on a slow note losing 1-0 to Malawi in the first game. 

The 2012 AFCON winners then went on to beat Comoros 2-1 and Seychelles 4-2 to finish as the best second placed team at the tournament progressing to the Semi-finals. 

In the semi-finals, Zambia saw off South Africa via a 2-1 scoreline thanks to goals from Golden Mashata and Albert Kangwanda to set up a final with Lesotho. 

A Wisdom Libamba Moyela header goal was enough to give Zambia their seventh COSAFA crown, the most by any nation. 

Player of the Tournament – Chawanangwa Kaonga (Zanaco & Malawi 🇲🇼)

Joint Top Scorer – Albert Kangwanda (Red Arrows, Zambia 🇿🇲 ) and Tshegofatso Mabasa (South Africa 🇿🇦)

Goalkeeper of the Tournament – Sekhoane Moerane,  Lesotho 🇱🇸)

Fair Play Award – Malawi 🇲🇼

Man of the Match in the final – Moyela Libamba (Forest Rangers & Zambia 🇿🇲) 

Third Place – South Africa 🇿🇦

Runners up – Lesotho 🇱🇸

Champions – Zambia 🇿🇲 

👉The Chipolopolo defended the trophy winning a record seventh title. 

👉 13th Cosafa Cup final appearance 

👉 16th appearance in the semi final 

👉 Zimbabwe and South Africa have won it 6th and 5th respectively
