Time for Klings Kangwa to take over the mantle

The Zambia National team will return to action next month with back to back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Lesotho.

Coach Avram Grant is expected to assemble a strong squad as he looks to get a double over Likuena.

Zambia will be without Enock Mwepu who was forced into retirement last year following a diagnosis of a hereditary heart condition

A new leader in the middle of the park will need to step up and fill the void Mwepu has left and that’s where Klings Kangwa.

The Serbian based playmaker has already shown flashes of his brilliance and will now have to take up the mantle.

In the Serbian Superliga he has been playing well and Kangwa since attracted interest from French Ligue 1 side Montpelier

According to statistical platform Instat Klings Kangwa was the second best midfielder in Serbia after teammate Gelor Kanga as of 22nd December.

During his last season in Russia, 2021/2022 Kangwa became the first foreign player to win the Arsenal Tula player of the season award in five years.

The statistics to back his prowess are there but he will now need to take charge at the National team as  the main man.

In June last year the Happy Hearts product scored a superb free-kick in the 88th minute to see the Chipolopolo Boys claim all 3 points and ensure the team ended match-day 2 of the AFCON qualifiers with a 2-1 win.

The victory was Zambia’s first competitive win under former boss, Croatian trainer Aljoša Asanović, putting behind the 3-1 defeat suffered to Cote d’Ivoire in the opening qualifying fixture.

Kangwa had been practicing free kicks in Russia and seems to have perfected the art. Away from the beautiful goal, his passing game and control of the game was on point.

Zambia will host the first leg match at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on March 23rd, with the game scheduled to kickoff at 18h00 (GMT 16H00).

Lesotho will host the return match at Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg on March 26th with kickoff set at 15h00 (GMT 13H00).

  1. He’s world class. One of my favorite midfielders. However the captaincy in my view should go to someone slightly older like Frankie, Fashion ,Lubambo Musonda orRodrick Kabwe.
