Senegal v Zambia, 03 July 2004
FIFA World Cup/CAN Qualifier Group 1
Stade Laopold Sadar Senghor DAKAR
Attendance: 50,000
Score Senegal 1 – 0 Zambia
Neutral named the team and summarized the game as follows –
Mischeck Lungu, Lloyd Mumba (Late), Kalililo Kakonje, Elijah Tana, Harry Milanzi and Jacob Mulenga(Standing my left to right).
Joseph Musonda, Dudley Fichite, Numba Mumamba, Billy Mwanza and Isaac Chansa
It was Senegal vs Zambia. Senegal won 1-0 after a mistake by Joseph Musonda on the left. The ball passed Kalililo Kakonje who could easily have saved it!
The Coach was Kalusha Bwalya in 2004/2005 Germany 2006 WC qualifiers. Boyd Mwila came in second half and terrorized Senegal.
Milanzi missed a glorious chance to equalize in second half. He hesistated to hammer into the net and a defender cleared it!
Its a painful match Zambia should have won unlike the nonsensical return match in Chililabombwe!
Other substitutes in this game:
Songwe Chalwe for Jacob Mulenga
Collins Mbesuma for Lloyd Mumba
Boyd Mwila for Harry Milanzi
I can see Joseph Musonda, Numba, Billy, Isaac Chansa and standing I spot Kakonje, Tana, Milanz and Jacob
From this team Zambia started dropping FIFA ranks. How many disciplined players there: maybe only Joseph. Those days Jacob, Issac also used to receive red-cards…
I know the players and the game. It was played in West Africa but I will let others sabaila first…
LOL! What a good trick!
No trick… just giving others an opportunity to jiggle their memories. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have said it was played in West Africa.
Squatting. Joseph Musonda, Dudley Fichite, Numba Numamba, Billy Mwanza. Isaac Chansa.

You’re right though it’s Senegal vs Zambia as the Senegalese were at home.

Was the return match the one Laughter Chilembi is famous for?
Precisely…. though I’d say ‘infamous’ rather than famous
Neutral, you’re on point.
What happened to Gift Kampamba, is he on the bench? What happened to his career?
Is it fair to say this needed more in midfield? I think i watched this one 2002. Sene sene afcon. Coach was not Kalu in 2002.
Standing:Misheck Lungu,unknown,Kalililo Kakonje,Elija Tana,Harry Milanzi,Jacob Mulenga.
Squatting:Joseph Musonda,unknown,Numba Mumamba,Billy Mwanza,Isaac Chansa
Poulsen.
Kampamba came off the bench. Zambia v Senegal on their home ground. Senegal’s golden generation which 2 years later went on to become the 2nd african nation to reach the WC quarters coached by Bruno Metsu.
Correction, afcon held in Mali 2002. Senegal later that year reached the quarters of the S.Korea/Japan WC. This matched could maybe have also been the last game of the group v Egypt..?
Off stopic:
GOVERNMENT has said the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is free to engage stand-in Chipolopolo coach ‘Chicken’ George Lwandamina on a long term basis.
This comes in the wake of Government facing difficulties in sourcing the $25, 000 per month salary for an expatriate coach from the corporate world.
Sports Minister Vincent Mwale said Government had no problem with FAZ going ahead with engaging the Zesco United trainer on a long term basis since money for an expatriate was not readily available.
In an interview in Lusaka, Mwale spoke about the difficulties the ministry was encountering in finding the money to pay the Zambia coach.
He said if FAZ saw it fitting for Lwandamina to take up the Chipolopolo top job on a long term basis, Government would be fine with that decision.
Last week, FAZ said it could consider giving Lwandamina a long term contract if Government indicated that there was no money to pay an expatriate coach whom the association had already identified.
“If FAZ is comfortable with George Lwandamina, then it’s with us. But I’ll keep fundraising for the expatriate coach and if I get the money, I’ll keep it so that we can use it when FAZ feels they need an expatriate coach,” the minister said.
Mwale had earlier said it was good that Zambia did not have a coaching crisis at the Chipolopolo with Lwandamina picking up the important wins which have placed the Chipolopolo in joint leadership with Congo Brazzaville in the 2017 Gabon Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
He reiterated that some companies he had approached spoke of difficulties in their cash flows while others committed themselves to January 2016 when their new financial year begin.
Despite the January promises, Mwale said the needed amount was not being met but hoped more companies would come on board to realise the budget.
So far, Konkola Copper Mines and Mopani Copper Mines have told Government they have no money to spend on the expatriate coach.
Zesco Limited have committed $6, 000 a month towards the coach’s salary with other firms offering accommodation.
Mwale said finding money for a local coach would be a lot easier and urged FAZ to inform Government once they make a decision.
This was one of the best game we didnt deserve to lose i remember the young clifford Mulenga dribbling that Coly captain from senegal so much the guy started to just clear the ball and not taking chances even when clifford was not near him.great memories
I don’t think Clifford played in this game. Maybe you’re thinking of Boyd Mwila?
The soccer enthusiasts have answered correctly. It was Senegal vs Zambia on 03.07.2004 in Dakar. No need for me to add anything more.
Yes Ace ur right it was Boyd Mwila who mesmerized the Senegalese.By the way what happened to that player???
This one is rather simple.
Billy, we will bring a tough one next week, brace yourself!
Kekekekeke! Ba Zamfoot, I can’t wait. We look forward to it. Lol!
Kankonje was the most useless goalkeeper we have ever had. Numba mumba had skill but useless @ goal..
In the 90s Zambia produced quality goalkeepers. Even after the death of Efford Chabala and Richard Mwanza, we had James Phiri and Davies Phiri. Since then we ve only produced one quality goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene. We tried Kalililo Kakonje awe sure, George Kolala iye mayo, Joshua Titima awe nakalya, Danny Munyau at least panono. So if Mweene gets injured we are in problems.
We just need to strengthen our league. Widen team selection and new good talent will be discovered.
our perfomance was dismal. its this dry spell wen we were in the wilderness for 14 years if u kno wat i mean.
