The win has lessened pressure on us- Mwape

The Zambia Women’s National Team thrashed Zimbabwe 5-0 in the first leg of their 2020 Tokyo Olympics second-round qualifier at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka on Wednesday afternoon.

Copper Queens head Coach Bruce Mwape believes the win has reduced the pressure on the team as they head into the second leg

“Winning 5-0 is Something good especially that we have won Zimbabwe for the first time because last year we lost here but managed to beat them in Zimbabwe, but the 5-0 today will lessen the pressure when we get to Zimbabwe for our second leg,” he said.

Coach Mwape told the ZAMFOOT Crew that maximizing on the opportunities and not holding on the ball for too long was key especially heading into the second stanza of the game

“At halftime, we told them to be focused because we wanted goals looking at the opponents’ Defense so we did not Concentrate on possession but rather putting the ball in the back of the net,” he said.

Copper Queens will now travel to Harare for the return Fixture slated for Sunday, September 1st, 2019. The winner in this encounter will progress to the next round and face either Botswana or South Africa.
