Edward Chilufya scored a great goal that sent FC Midtjylland through to the Conference League on a disappointing night in terms of play. Hear from the Zambian goalscorer below.
It was tough, but FC Midtjylland are through to the 3rd qualifying round in the Conference League after an overall 3-2 win over Progrès Niederkorn.
One of the positive stories of the evening was Edward Chilufya, who was substituted for the extended playing time and ended up being decisive for further advancement with a great score.
- It means a lot to be back on the field and play so many minutes. It was my first goal in the European matches, so I’m happy, says the 23-year-old goalscorer and continues:
- For me, it is important to contribute to the team. I’ve had problems with injuries recently so I’m happy to be back and now I hope this can be the start of me really helping the team.
Can you put your goal into words?
- I decided to try, even though I was a bit outside the field. I put everything into the shot because I saw that the keeper was way out and he thought maybe I was going to pass the ball to Cho on the right. It was nice to see it go into the long corner, says Edward Chilufya, who kicked the 2-1 reduction into the net with eight minutes left of extra time.
The likable offensive player enjoyed the cheers that followed, where he delivered his usual somersault before a pat on the back from his teammates.
- It was great to celebrate the goal. It feels so good to help my teammates and be an important part of the team. It gives me some motivation for the upcoming matches, where I will take this experience with me. I will give my best so that we can achieve our goals together.
