The Boys have potential to play for Chipolopolo – Chisi Mbewe

Chisi Mbewe is the bulk of the players in his U-20 national team who have the potential to play for the Senior National team.

Mbewe believes the players have the potential to play for the Chipolopolo and  just need to be nurtured properly.

Mbewe says the players should not be judged based on their poor showing at the  Egypt U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

“There are a lot of players from this group that have the potential to make it into the Senior squad but we only need to nurture them more, the results from this tournament will definitely make them look like they are bad players whereas they are actually good and skilled players,” Mbewe said.

Tunisia beat Zambia 2-1 in Cairo to qualify to the quarter-final phase of the TotalEnergies U20 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.

Both Zambia and the Young Carthage Eagles came into the decisive match needing to win to secure their place in the last eight of the tournament.

Goals from Jibril Othman and Mohamed Dhaoui on either side of Kingstone Mutandwa equaliser was enough to send Tunisia through in second place behind leaders Gambia while Benin finished third and Zambia bowed out as the bottom team.

Zambia finished the group stage with only a single point losing two games, scoring two goals and conceding five.

  1. Please Chisi not now; the assessment of the players makes you look silly. In 5( five) years non of these under 20 boys will make it into the Chipo squad. You had no justification for the omission of boys based in Europe, apart from exposing these below par local boys; but unfortunately your plan lamentably flopped

  2. Then that Chipolopolo they will play for is a rotten one. Their results do indicate that. How can you expect useless under20 to be a better under23 and later on a better Chipolopolo. It is time we as Zambians stopped day dreaming. We have a useless FAZ, what do you expect

  3. This is a joke. These boys were playing like a High School team. The Keeper, defenders and strikers all looked like the did not have a clue of what to do on the pitch. Which National team are you talking of? Even in Swaziland they wont make it. Same with the Coach.
