Super subs Zikuru & Were fire Zesco to victory over Buildcon

Champions Zesco United came from a goal down to beat Buildcon 3-1 in a thrilling Ndola derby at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Ghanaian striker Rahim Ousimanu gave Buildcon the lead but Tenant Chembo’s Zega came out fighting in the second half to win the match

With Buildcon the better side, the team Kopala were rewarded with goal after Rahim connected a John Makwata corner in the 33rd minute.

Chembo, whose future is still undecided as George Lwandamina continues to be linked with the Zesco United, brought on Ghanian striker Zikuru for the ineffective Rwandese midfielder Enoch Sabamunuka in the first half.

After the break, a defensive lapse allowed the impressive Lameck Banda to send a cross and Zikuru headed home his first league goal of the campaign as Nigerian full back Osas and Chris Munthali ball watched.

Then came on the Were for Winstone Kalengo and the Kenyan striker scored a solo goal after be went past Ben Adama and Munthali to slot home the second goal.

In between the Zesco goals, Chisamba Lungu, captaining Buildcon tried to drive his side but there was lack of cutting edge in the final third.

Zimbabwean midfielder Devon Chaffa was then sent off a two footed challenge on Kondwani Mtonga.

Late in the game, Zesco were awarded a penalty and Lazarous Kambole picked himself up despite pleas from Zikuru and the Zambian striker scored his 7th goal of the year in all competitions.

Attention now shifts to midweek games as Zesco face Lusaka Dynamos while Buildcon will be away against Lumwana.
