Zesco United Football Club have announced the promotion of six young players from their developmental structures after impressing the technical bench during their trials which was aimed at giving the youngsters a chance to play for the senior team.
When unveiling the players, club’s Chief Executive Officer Richard Mulenga who was speaking with the Zesco United media team said, “This is in line with our policy to try and ensure that ZESCO United is not purchasing players from other clubs but developing players from our own feeder clubs.”
“We asked the coaching staff from these teams to send us five of their best players and our head coach is having a look at them with a view to getting the best for further development at ZESCO United Football Club,”
Zesco United unveiled 18-year-old striker Emmerson Kabwe and 26-year-old defender Gilbert Tembo who were both playing for Zesco Malaiti Rangers, 18-year-old attacking midfielder Thomas Mubita who was with Zesco Victoria Falls. Others who have been promoted are Willard Nkausu, Victor Chanda and Mutale Sangwani.
Thomas Mubita did not hold back his excitement after knowing that he will be playing along side Enock Sabumukama and Tafadzwa Rusike, “I am very happy that I was chosen to remain here because I showcased what I had and I must now prove that I can do it. There are so many people who are behind me and looking up to me, so I have to prove my worth.”
“I think this has given me a big opportunity to play alongside big names such as Sabumukama, Tafadzwa Rusike, so that I can develop into a better footballer.”
Gilbert Tembo also expressed his gratitude, “I am very much excited to be here and to be chosen among the 32 players. It wasn’t easy to be among the best six. The biggest challenge I have now is to work extra hard and show the technical bench that I can play for the main team.”
Zesco have already commenced training in readiness for the coming season after they finished the just ended season without any Silverware.
