Shonga hits 4 for Nkwazi as Nkana go 5 points clear

Nkwazi midfielder Justin Shonga scored four goals to give his side a comfortable 4-1 win against Kabwe Warriors at Edwin Imboela Stadium on Saturday.

In the process, Shonga became the second player to score four goals in a single match in the 2016 MTN FAZ Super League, matching Zesco United forward Jesse Jackson Were whose goals came against Mufulira Blackpool at the end of April.

The former Young Stars midfielder has had a flying start in his second season at Nkwazi having scored the club’s first goal of the current campaign and after twelve appearances has got six goals to his name.

He got the ball rolling against Kabwe Warriors by finding the back of the net on twenty minutes and added three more goals after the break to give a comfortable 4-1 win to the hosts.

Jacob Phiri scored the lone goal for the visitors and took his personal tally to four goals this season.

Nkwazi coach Elijah Chikwanda singled out the midfielder for praise.

“It is a job well done; he has played a brilliant game and I salute him for that, ” said Chikwanda.

And Kabwe Warriors coach Mohamed Fathy said his side would soon start recording desired results once some challenges were over come.

Kabwe Warriors have not won in all six matches they have played away from home, having recorded two draws and four losses.

“It is a tough league; you can win one match in this week and drop points in another. No team is stable at the moment because they are all dropping points against each other,” said Fathy.

“At the moment we have some challenges but we are going to work on them. The most important thing is give ourselves hope that one day we are going to start winning away from home.”

Elsewhere, leaders Nkana opened a five point lead over second placed Zesco United following a 1-0 victory away to Nakambala Leopards.

Walter Bwalya scored the only goal of the match just before the break to take the league leaders to 26 points.

There were also victories for Mufulira Wanderers and Lusaka Dynamos against Power Dynamos and Napsa Stars respectively.

An own goal on 43 minutes condemned Power Dynamos to a 1-0 loss at Shinde Stadium following an own goal by captain of the side Francis Kasonde.

And Luka Chamanga fired Lusaka Dynamos to victory with a well taken free kick scored in the 70th minute.

Three more league matches are scheduled for Sunday.

Zesco United play Zanaco in the first match of the double header at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium with the match between Forest Rangers and Lusaka Tigers following afterwards.

Green Eagles will be at home to Mufulira Blackpool.
