Were scores again as Joseph Phiri makes it two in two

Kenyan international Jesse Were scored in a 4th consecutive game for Zesco United as he rescued a point for the champions when they came from behind to draw 1 – 1 with Kabwe Warriors.

The champions who have struggled for form in the past couple of games went conceded first at the Godfrey Ucar Chitalu stadium when Josephat Kasus converted from the spot.

However, the high scoring lanky Kenyan was on hand to score his 9th of the season as he made it 7 goals in 4 games having scored four times against Mufulira Blackpool.

Zesco failed to take advantage of Nkana’s 3 – 1 loss against Green Buffaloes which could have seen them go top but they have reduced the gap at the top to two points.

In Mufulira, struggling Mufulira Blackpool recovered from their 5 – 0 bashing at the hands of Zesco United when they managed to draw 1 – 1 against Red Arrows.

Blackpool seemed to be heading for a win when they went ahead in the first half but Arrows will have their ‘wonder kid’ Joseph Phiri to thank after he scored the equalizer to rescue a point for the airmen and ensure that they remain unbeaten in three games.

This was Phiri’s second goal in three days after he scored the winner against Nakambala Leopards.

The 18 year old has so far made four appearances for Arrows with three starts and has two goals to his name this season.

Power Dynamos started life after Tenant Chilumba on a good note with a 1 – 0 win over visiting Nkwazi. Benson ‘America’ Sakala scored the only goal of the match.

The win sees Power move from 8th to 5th position.

Spencer Sautu scored his 3rd goal of the season when he helped Green Eagles to a 1 – 0 win over Forest Rangers.

Newly signed coach Patrick Phiri failed to inspire Rangers to their first in three games as they fell to a fourth consecutive loss to remain in the relegation zone.

Bwalya Kasonde also scored for Nchanga Rangers as they beat visiting Lumwana Radiants 1 – 0 to go 6th on the table.
