Nkana record first loss after being outclassed by Buffaloes

Nkana record first league loss but stay top

Green Buffaloes outclassed log leaders Nkana FC to win 3 – 1 in a pulsating week 9 FAZ super division match played at Independence stadium.

Fans who packed the historic stadium received their money’s worth as the game offered everything from good football, four goals, two red cards and off the field entertainment from the fans.

Nkana who had not lost a game before this encounter knew they were in for a tough afternoon as Buffaloes were on the front foot right from the start.

The pressure by the army side paid off in the 19th minute when a well curled corner kick by Sebastian Mwansa was turned in by Christopher Munthali in the 16th minute.

Lottie Phiri who was brilliant all afternoon then unleashed a shot from outside the box which beat Scott Ngokene in the Nkana goal only to come off the crossbar.

Christopher Katongo was on hand to shoot an overhead kick from the rebound for Buffaloes to go two goal clear.

A moment of madness from Ngokene saw him step on Steven Kabamba in retaliation and he was given a straight red in the 27th minute.

The sending off incensed the Nkana fans and  the match was stopped for several minutes as Nkana fans threw missiles on to the pitch.

Veteran defender Joseph Musonda was massive in calming down his colleagues and he led his colleague to the Nkana fans to appeal for calm.

Coach Aggrey Chiyangi sacrificed Jacob Ngulube for Charles Mweemba but he also found himself picking the ball from the net after Diamond Chikwekwe cross cum shot tucked in at his far angle.

Moments later in the referee’s optional time, Kabamba was also given marching orders when he conceded a second yellow as he tried to stop a Giully Manziba ran for the two teams to go into the interval a man down each.

Nkana upped their game in the second half but with three goals ahead, Buffaloes were happy to soak the pressure and try to hold on to the ball as much as they could.

Nkana pulled one back in the 55th minute when the referee made a strange decision to award a goal to Nkana after Buffaloes goalkeeper Geofrey Silavwe collected a Maybin Chishimba cross but was pushed over the line by Walter Bwalya mid-air.

The lines man raised his flag for an infringement but strangely started his sprint to the to centre line as if to indicate a goal.

Buffaloes saw out the match and created more chances but impressive Chikwekwe, man of the match Katongo and substitute Felix Sunzu all failed to convert their chance as Nkana threw caution to the wind.

The win sees Buffaloes go fourth while Nkana will maintain first position.

  1. Ndiye bola!!! These new artificial Nkana fans r too emotional ‘cry babies’. I started supporting mighty 20 years ago whilst in primary and m still real. #yesSir

  2. Chris Katongo is not finished and please! give his national team arm band to consolidate leadership in the team.Even if Kalaba is not there Cletus Chama can the job.

    • Dont cheat yourself iwe. Kalaba remains captain. Katongo plus Cletus Chama combined cant match Rainford Kalaba at his best.

  3. Nkana fans…why always Nkana fans? These people need to seriously be disciplined by FAZ. It is a continual problem.

  4. That bicycle kick of a goal by one Chris Katongo against Nkana, was just master class, probably goal of the year. Thumbs up CK11. Keep it up. GBFC are playing some fine solid football. They are very strong contenders for the league.

    • That overheaf goal by Chris cannot be goal of the year. Did you see the goal scored by one Chikwekwe of GBFC in the same match? That was a brilliant goal. I have not seen that goal even from Zambia national team. I only see such goals from European football.

  5. Zambia to play Mali,Faz clarified on da sport wear sponsorship and Faz General secretary to be appointed this Friday ,Zamfoot we need news too quiet

  6. Bushe icisela chacita score own goals cifuminekwisa mwebantu awe ba Nkana muposeko amano,u shld b running fast Shedrick u started well now wht hs become of u?

  7. Zamfoot give us news, kamanga had a press conference he did also sign deal with zambian brewiries and he is in Mexico attending the fifa general meeting these are the things we want to know but you are quiet why?

  8. I’m still thinking and wondering. Honestly people, that foul against the GBFC keeper the ref giving a goal? That coward referee must be banned nangu Ku Tina ba Nkana sure?Even Kabamba’s red card eeeh?????

    • Still scratching my head too!! I think the ref was just trying to even things but instead he lost control of the match totally.

  9. Does this really make reading sense “The pressure by the army side paid off in the 19th minute when a well curled corner kick by Sebastian Mwansa was turned in by Christopher Munthali in the 16th minute.” Anyway…….

  10. I want to say two things. Lwandimina should stop this patson daka nonsense and call Mayuka. Secondly charly musonda has been left out of euro 2016. It’s very obvious that charly cannot play for belgium why can’t he just give zambia a shot.

  11. Zamfoot needs to b serious they shud diversify their reporting by doin international articles as well, they’re too reliant on local news such that nga chauma ninshi kuba stuck. Otherwize we r starving.

  12. How about just shutting down this site and coming back only when you’re ready to meet people’s expectations. Not even a word on why there’re no updates!
