Red Arrows sign John Pweto Kanyembo

MTN Super League side Red Arrows have confirmed the acquisition of Congolese striker John Pweto Kanyembo, as earlier reported by the ZamFoot Crew

The DR Congo U20 forward was the subject of interest from Tunisian side Espérance Sportive de Tunis, Al Ahly of Egypt, Vipers SC of Uganda and Young Africans of Tanzania, the ZamFoot Crew understands.

The Airmen have moved swiftly after losing their talisman Albert Kangwanda who has completed a switch to Tanzanian side Young Africans.

The 20 year forward scored 14 goals last season and was part of the Congo DR local CHAN team that participated in the 2024 African Nations Championship.

“The 2026 Absa Cup Champions and Super League Runners Up, Red Arrows Football Club have bolstered their attacking ranks with the capture of a highly rated Congolese striker John Pweto Kanyembo, who has signed a three year contract with the Airmen.”

The 20 year old joins the Airmen from FC Saint Pierre after an impressive spell with Congolese giants FC Saint Éloi Lupopo, where he announced himself as one of Linafoot’s brightest young forwards.

“Pweto found the back of the net 14 times last season, combining physical strength, aerial dominance and clinical finishing to become a constant menace for opposition defences.

His outstanding performances earned him call ups to the DR Congo CHAN squad and the DR Congo Under-20 national team, which underlines his growing reputation as one of the country’s most exciting attacking prospects.

The towering frontman also sampled continental football with Lupopo in the CAF Champions League, holding his own against CAF heavyweights Espérance de Tunis and Orlando Pirates, experiences that have moulded him into a more complete striker. Known for his commanding presence in the box, relentless work rate and eye for goal.”

Pweto is expected to inject fresh firepower into the Red Arrows attack as the Airmen prepare for the new campaign.

The Airmen are looking to reinforce the squad ahead of the MTN Super League transitional season that will kick off in September.

Arrows have already secured the services of striker Eliya Mandanji, forward Munda Phiri, defender Owen Mwamba, midfielder Elvis Mulenga from Kafue Celtic and former Zambia U20 national team left back Amon Chulu
