Red Arrows ease past Kabwe Warriors to win the Charity shield

Ricky Banda scored a brace as MTN Super League Champions, Red Arrows cruised to a 4-1 win to clinch the 2024 Carling Black Label Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield.

The result was a little unfair for the Magnificent people’s team who put up a formidable fight.

Warriors started strong and called Charles Kalumba into action 30 seconds into the match after a beautiful cross from the left found Akakulubelwa Mwachiaba in the box who powered a header on target and Kalumba had to produce a fantastic save.

Warriors were looking like the better side and Kalumba had to stay on top of his game as they continued to threaten.

Francis Banda saw his effort fly over Kalumba’s goal before Ackim Mumba on the end somehow missed the target from close range.

Arrows nearly took the lead just before the half hour mark but James Chamanga’s shot from the edge of the box hit the post with Scot Ngokene well beaten.

Mwamba Mutombo on the other end saw his shot saved by Kalumba after Arrows carelessly lost possession just outside the 18 yard area.

In the second half, Chisi Mbewe made changes with a triple Substitution at the start of the second stanza, Onyumbe, Alassane Diara and Lazarus Chishimba all introduced.

Six minutes into the second stanza, Red Arrows got their chance to take the lead as the referee pointed to the spot, Ricky Banda stepped up and made no mistakes from 12 yards, 1-0.

Banda doubled the lead in the 64th minute from close range to put the Airmen in the driving seat.

New signing Angel Lubamba came off the bench to score a beautiful third goal in the 71st minute.

Michee Malonga Gesimo then produced the goal of the match with nine minutes to go, a brilliant long range strike leaving Scot Ngokene with no chance.

Mwamba Mutombo pulled one back five minutes to time but it was a little too late as Red Arrows held on to win the match 4-1.

Ricky Banda was named the player of the match as he walked away with K26,000 for his troubles.
