Red Arrows Boosted by Katema Return as ABSA Cup Winners Provide Injury Update

Fresh from lifting the 2026 ABSA Cup, Red Arrows have received a timely boost ahead of the new MTN Super League season with midfielder Paul Katema returning to full training after recovering from a long-term ankle injury.

The industrious midfielder has rejoined the squad for pre-season preparations, strengthening the Airmen’s options as they look to build on last season’s success. Katema spent a significant period on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury, but the club has now confirmed he has been cleared to resume training with his teammates.

While Katema’s return is encouraging, Red Arrows continue to manage the recovery of three other first-team players. Midfielder Kombe Sabiwa and winger Chrispin Sikasibi both underwent surgery at Coptic Hospital last month and are progressing through rehabilitation under the supervision of the club’s medical department. Midfielder Thomas Zulu is also recovering from a knee injury and is expected to be fit in time for the start of the new campaign.

Sikasibi is targeting a return to competitive action in October 2026, while Sabiwa is expected to complete his recovery by January 2027. The club says it will continue to closely monitor the progress of all injured players as preparations for the new season gather pace.

In a statement, Red Arrows said: “Red Arrows Football Club is delighted to confirm that workaholic midfielder Paul Katema has made a full recovery from a long-term ankle injury and has rejoined the squad for pre-season training ahead of the 2026 campaign. His return is a major boost for the Airmen as preparations intensify for the new season.”

The club added: “The duo have since embarked on their rehabilitation programmes under the close supervision of the Club’s medical team, alongside midfielder Thomas Zulu who is also recovering from a knee injury. The Club will continue to monitor their progress alongside the rest of the squad as pre-season gathers momentum.”
