The journey for who will represent Lusaka Province in the National League playoffs continues this weekend as the battle now enters into the second half with Misisi Youth Academy still on top of the table
Being on top is not a factor as the top 9 teams on the table have a chance of finding themselves on top after week 34.
For the week 23 matches, all roads lead to Katwishi ground on Sunday, where people’s ears and hearts will be too, following what is happening because that’s where the battle will be when the top two giants lock horns. League leaders Misisi Youth Academy will be hosting second-placed Young Green Buffaloes. What will make this match interesting is Misisi wants to go 4 points clear while Young Buffaloes knows that with a win, they will overthrow Misisi on top.
Misisi Academy is going into this match with only one loss and they have the best defense as they have conceded only 5 goals from 17 matches played and they have scored only 13 goals. Peter Moyo and Gabriel Banda are expected to carry on their recent scoring form for Misisi to gun down the tricky ‘Young’ Buffaloes.
On the other side, the Army side has the best strikeforce, scoring 27 goals and disappointingly their defense is one of the top five most leaking goals as they have allowed 18 goals from 17 matches. Striker Michael Bwalya who is the current league-leading top goal scorer with 11 goals is expected to rise to the occasion and punish the Misisi side.
Elsewhere another interesting battle will be at Crested Crane as Shamuel Academy hosts Airport Warriors. Both teams are occupying 7th and 6th places separated with only 2 points. Coach Fewdays Musonda has all the faith in carrying the day with the hopes rested on Cent Kangwa and captain Richard Kasonde to deliver. Meanwhile for the Airport side Coach Kenny ‘Gazza’ Zulu assembled side goals that can come from anyone and when you don’t expect it.
In other fixtures, Chongwe United will host the energetic boys in Athletico Lusaka at Chongwe Secondary School Ground. At Miller Ground, inconsistent Paramilitary will welcome 8th place Happy Hearts. Interestingly, their goal poacher and second league top scorer Allan Bwalya is back in action from an injury. Riflemen who are coming from a 1-0 defeat to Young Zanaco will host relegation-threatened Kabwata Dynamos as they fight to go back among the top teams.
At Sunset Stadium on Sunday, Young Zanaco coming from a 1-0 win during midweek will be in action against Vector whereas third-placed Young Napsa will host fourth-place Lusaka City Council, and whoever wins it will be in third place.
The other inconsistent teams will face each other as Irwin Rangers hosts Sable bulls and Chainda Bombers who have won 2 games and lost 3 in their last 5 matches will be the visitors as they face Kalilo Celtic have also dropped in their performance.
