Africa’s sole representatives at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Women’s football tournament, Zambia has been put in Pot 4 ahead of Wednesday’s draw.
The women’s sides were split into four pots and, their allocation to the pots was based on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking released on 16 April 2021.
Zambia is alongside Chile and New Zealand in pot 4 while the seeded sides are hosts Japan, the ‘Mighty’ United States of America, and the Netherlands while Great Britain, Sweden, and Brazil are in Pot 2.
The 12 sides will be drawn into three groups of four (Groups E to G), and the pot allocation for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament is as follows:
Pot 1: Japan, USA, Netherlands
Pot 2: Sweden, Great Britain, Brazil
Pot 3: Canada, Australia, China PR
Pot 4: New Zealand, Chile, Zambia
The 12 teams that have qualified for the Olympic Women football tournament will discover their first opponents in the draw, to be held on 21 April at 10:00 CET, at the Home of FIFA in Zurich.
Zambia qualified for their maiden Olympic Games after a rigorous qualification process that saw them get the better of Zimbabwe, Botswana, Kenya, and Cameroon to book their ticket to Japan.
