Provincial D1 Lusaka: Riflemen thump Shamuel as Kabwata Dynamos record first win

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Division One Lusaka Province completed its first round of matches over the weekend.

Shamuel and Msisi felt the taste of defeat, Kabwata Dynamos celebrated their first win while Young Zanaco continued their struggle for a first victory of the season.

After setting a record of conceding the first goal in the eighth game of the season, Misisi Soccer Academy went on to set another record in week 17 as they suffered the first defeat of the season when they faced Happy Hearts at Corporative grounds. Despite the defeat, Misisi is still occupying second place on the log table.

Happy Hearts scored their only goal of the game through Emmanuel Timu and it was enough to help them record only their third win of the season.

Ayubu Banda’s goal was all that Kabwata Dynamos needed to feel the taste of winning a game. Before the match, Kabwata had played 8 games, drawing 3, losing 5, and were in 17th place on the table. A win helped them jump to number 15 with 6 points.

Chongwe United who could not fight for a comeback against Kabwata, seem not to find a solution to guide the team back to impressive performances as they did in Division 2. The loss to Kabwata was their fifth and they seem to be heading into the relegation zone.

At Arakan, Riflemen proved to be the strong side as they had to punish the rich kids Shamuel with a heavy 4-1 scoreline. Owester Mwakatambala’s second brace of the season and a goal each from Michael Bulaya and Godfrey Chanda forced Shamuel to taste defeat.

Shamuel is yet to win a game after an emphatic 7-0 win over Irwin Rangers in week 14. Captain Richard Kasonde scored a consolation goal and his fourth of the season.

A one-all draw was the result at Chakunkula between the home side Airport Warriors and league leaders Young Green Buffaloes. Thanks to the goals from Simon Kabwe for the home side and Luck Bwalya for Young Buffaloes.

Young Zanaco is now losing their giant tag as they are disappointingly second from the bottom of the table with 4 points from 9 games played. In the week 17 encounter, they had to come from behind through Christopher Mhango’s goal to cancel out John Musunga’s goal for Irwin Rangers to force the match to a 1 all draw.
