Chipolopolo coach George Lwandamina has challenged his players to prove themselves against Algeria when the two sides meet in Friday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
Speaking Sunday afternoon at the start of training at Tirsathone Stadium in the Azazga area of Tizi Ouzou, Lwandamina said the players have an opportunity to dispel the long standing perception that North African teams are superior to Zambia.
“This game on Friday gives you a chance to change, to rewrite history and make the change, they are as human as we are,” Lwandamina told the players.
Chipolopolo arrived in Algeria this morning, touching down at 07h25 before making the approximately 100 kilometre journey to Tizi Ouzou, where the team has set up camp.
The team held its first training session this afternoon as preparations intensified for Friday’s Group I opener.
Meanwhile, most of the players called up have arrived in Algeria, with six still expected to join camp Sunday night.
They are Patson Daka, Miguel Chaiwa, Joseph Liteta, Ricky Chanda, Mathews Banda and Kingston Mutandwa.
Gampani Lungu will be the last one to join the team tomorrow.
Zambia will face Algeria on Friday in the opening match of the AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.
