Player Ratings: Zambia 1 – 1 Guinea (CHAN 2021)

The Zambia national team played out to a 1 – 1 draw with Guinea in their second match of the on-going 2021 CHAN Competition. Spencer Sautu’s late equalizer rescued the point as the Chipolopolo remain in contention for a place in the quarter finals.

The ZamFoot Crew takes a look at how the players performed.

Allan Chibwe 8/10 – Brilliant save in the 33rd minute from a close range shot to keep scores at 0 – 0. He was alert to the crosses in the box even in daring situations and his distribution was good. Can hardly be faulted for the goal.

Clement Mwape 6/10 – Moved to the right back position with Adrian Chama back. Difficulty to remember a cross coming from his end as he had it well sealed but he lost his man for the Guinea chance that almost resulted in a goal in the 33rd man. He did very little to support the attack. He was sacrificed as Zambia went all out for the equalizer with 13 minutes to play.

Zechariah Chilongoshi 4/10 – Another shaky performance by the full back. That he had Kelvin Kampamba ahead of him to track the overlapping full back did not help his cause. He was through on goal a minute before Zambia conceded and his miss proved costly but atoned with an assist for Sautu. He conceded a needless card in the first half.

Luka Banda 7/10 – The defender is growing into this position. A dominant display both in the air and on the ground.

Adrian Chama 7/10 – Led from the back. Aggressive in his marking and did not give the Guinea strikers much space.

Kelvin Kapumbu 6/10 – Another steady display from the holding midfielder. Good positioning but again needs to be the calming effect to start play from behind.

Paul Katema 6/10 – Played to his strength. Not exactly a ball player but makes up with his work rate. He tried to pick probing passes for the strikers but was guilty for Zambia’s failure to keep possession.

Collins Sikombe 8/10 – Great work today in the final third trying to link up play. Even when the Chipolopolo went down and Micho tweaked the formation and he was sent wide, he pushed the cause for a goal and looked to be likeliest to create the chance.

Kelvin Kampamba 5/10 -Nothing much to write home about. Was failing to track back his marker but his effort going forward was also lackluster. Lost the ball too often for Zambia to sustain any significant movement forward.

Amity Shamenda 5/10 – Stretched play well but he was ineffective in the final third.

Emmanuel Chabula 6/10 – Looked rushed at times and squandered what looked like obvious chances. He needs to do better if Zambia has to go far.

Substitutes

Spencer Sautu 7/10 – Brought more stability to the right side of attack. Later moved to right back, his overlapping run ended with a good leap to guide the ball home with his head for the equalizer.

Moses Phiri 5/10 – Was running into good spaces and found himself chance with the ball falling kindly for him inside the box but shot over the bar when Zambia desperately needed an equalizer.

Bruce Musakanya 4/10 – Came in late. He hardly influenced the game in any way

Coach 7/10

Micho responded well to from the last game and set out his team to play a more open game. Unfortunately a number of his key players failed to rise to the occasion on the day. Kelvin Kampamba, Emmanuel Chabula, Zechariah Chilongoshi and Amity Shamenda just seemed out of their depth. He did not worst time to respond by making a change at half time. He was brave to substitute a defender for a striker with 13 minutes to play as Zambia chased and equalizer. He will have a decision to make on the form of Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba.

  1. Just why Micho keeps fielding a none performing defender baffles even my grand mother! Zacharious Chilongoshi is beyond help. He will cost us plenty and we shall hear about going back to the drawing board. As we have observed defenders cover an area and don’t blindly follow the ball. Give other players on the bench a chance, please!!!

  2. Total nonsense to suggest that Zachariah chilongoshi dint play well devilish talk be factual zamfoot he was one of our best players today

  3. Chabula is not performing up to standards his had 4 big chances in 2 games and his only got 1 goal which could have been buried if it were Patson Daka or Fashion Sakala
