Player Ratings: Mozambique 0 – 1 Zambia

Mozambique 0 – 1 Zambia

In front of an almost full Estadio National De Zimpeto and the noise fans, Chipolopolo did the required job over the Mambas beating them 1 – 0.

The Mambas were rampant in attack from the on set led by Elias ‘Domingues’ Pelembe, in the end all their Efforts where in Vain.

Zambianfootball.co.zm’s Coach Franklyn takes a look at individual Player performances for the victorious Zambian Side.

Kindly Note that the ratings are more on the Tactical edge than what fans want to see.

K Mweene 9/10 – The only things he did wrong was spilling three free kicks into dangerous spheres of pla, parring them wide would have been better. The Positives are that his positioning and Judgement were top notch. He was excellent whenever called upon and went down on 2 to 3 occasions to take out the Mamba’s Steam.Organised his back line well.Great and Important Penalty save.

D Malama 5/10 – He was expected to play 60/40 i.e Defence/attack and he got the first part correct except on one occasion in the 85th minute when he was skinned in and out for a shot that went wide. His flaws were his passing and movement going forward, not as one would’ve hoped for.

E Mbola 5/10 – Had the same duties with Malama. Was caught napping in 42nd minute when a cut across ball through his flank almost set up a Mamba’s Goal. As usual was confident going forward, picked the right passes and did well whenever required to defend. Unlucky to concede that Penalty which replays clearly show that the ball hit his knee.

C Munthali 6/10 – Did well whenever called upon.Despite knowing he came into the game as third choice behind Sunzu and Nyambe, he played his socks out and exceptionally during the early Mozambique on slaught. Good communication with Nyambe. His speed let him down occasionally against Domingues. He was skinned in the box for the cross that resulted in the penalty and was at times made to look to ordinary by the quick Mozambican strikers.

M Nyambe 7/10 – Business as usual for the ‘Hard Man’. Proved his worth again especially with a great recovery in the 9th Minute after Mweene spilt Domingues’ free kick. Tightly marked his opponent and showed maturity when doing so. His flaw was that at times he played too many back passes which may be a disadvantage against a high pressing opponent and at times when doing so the distance between him and Central defence partner was a bit too much and recoveries may be hard to do.

N Sinkala 7/10 – Protected the back four very well, excellent expert ball distribution and recovery. However, whenever he gets into an attacking position he seems to lose all the confidence in turn it affects his shooting which was dreadful except one hopeful shot in the 21st minute. He equally didn’t use so much the space that was being left by the Mambas in the middle to venture forward even more. He needs to improve his attacking side but he was exceptional on the defensive side.

G Singuluma 8/10 – Once again poured out his all for Zambia. The 2009 CHAN top scorer capped his Performance with a well struck volley. He tracked back very well whenever need arose and had good recoveries. Found his team mates very well and showed good decision making, the fetch and carry role seems to be his best. He again showed he is goal oriented with three attempts that went wide. Could do well to find himself more on the edge of that box.

B Musakanya 4/10 – A disappointing game for the young star. He was too quiet in attack which was his primary role and didnt do much secondarily in defence. He stayed on the pitch longer than he was supposed to.

R Kampamba 6/10 – Played in a rather reserved role today with his duty being to link-up play from the middle to the top man and hoping to feed off the target man. He found his team mates well whenever he had the ball and showed good decision making. Didn’t give away any ball but he could have done much better for himself to even have a sniff at goal. At times dropped rather to deep causing him not to quickly join upfront. Did well in a not so familiar role.

R Kalaba 8/10 – Its no mean feat when mates label you a ‘Teacher’ or ‘Master’. Again showed how comfortable he is with the ball at his feet, a move in the 37th minute left Lobo for dead on the right flank as the ‘Master’ went for the ‘Box’. From the first whistle you could tell he meant business. Took his free kicks well, the corners and tracked back whenever called upon. His exchange of flanks equally meant he stayed alive in the game. The assist for Mazembe team mate showed great ‘awareness’ of off the ball runners. He did the Hard things in what seemed ‘effortless’ Manner. Good game today and was unfortunate not to score as he saw his effort come off the cross bar in the 54th minute.

E Mayuka 8/10 – Many people dont realise a lone Centre forward’s role tactically and I am sure many realised today. Held up play when required, peeled off wide into pockets of space and his ‘shoot on sight’ policy was okay. Worked hard to bring off the ball runners into play and didn’t go down easily as has been criticised previously. Unfortunately, didnt really look like a partner to Sate Sate but to Kalaba and Singuluma. Gave the Defenders tough time as he played on their shoulders.

SUBS:
D Nkausu 6/10 – He gets this mark because of the period which he was on the pitch. Made great interventions and brought in another dimension of wisdom at the back. Seemed to have a good understanding with Nyambe. Decent outing

L Musonda 7/10 – Gave Janza reason to start him against Cabo Verde. Did his attacking Job excellently and provided the cross for Kalaba’s nod into Singuluma’s path. His ball retention was good and took on the left back brilliantly with no fear. Found his passes very well and provided great impetus going forward. His flaw was the back flick that almost landed the team in trouble. He still needs maturity on that end and requires to learn more ‘Result Management’. Good Injection.

E Kangwa – Replaced Mayuka very late in the game. Not enough time to receive a rating. I am sure he’ll get a better chance against Cabo Verde.

H Janza 8/10 – With what he was trying to do in this match, he got his selection perfectly correct. His subs were top notch in terms of Man to Man except Musakanya stayed on too long in my view. Lubambo delivered what was in Janza’s thoughts – attack and attack in wide areas. Taking Off Munthali was a well calculated move, Mozambique were surely going to come at us and their pace might have troubled Munthali. Nkausu was a perfect match for that position. He was constantly on the touch line and gave instructions. Looks like the players are on his side and that in itself is a positive. Hands off the gaffer!!

The Referees 5/10 – Poor Performance by Eric Kantsane and his Side kicks. Made a number of wrong calls especially that Penalty. For a much experienced referee, he had an average game and at times seemed to be on Mozambique’s side.

The Team 8/10 – They kept their shape very well. Showed confidence whenever on the ball. Had good communication. Their flaws were at times delayed to push up as a unit after clearing their lines. They allowed Mozambique too much space after scoring and seemed to have put their foot off the gas a bit.

Match Rating – Worth the Entrance Fee.

  1. Congratulations, the team pulled the result out of the bag today. We had just a little bit more quality than unfortunate Mozambique.

The team was ok but one still wonders if Janza is in charge at an Afcon whether it will be like Patrick Phiri. It was an open game but if it is something else we may struggle. Anytime the Mambas got the ball they could turn us and get us chasing – playing the ball in behind us at will which we seemed unable or unconscious to cover throughout the game.

The young guys are the ones to play and take Zambia forward but i still say we need depth and more experience in this team!

It was the sixth afcon qualification in a row, a feat we will share with Ivory Coast and Ghana should they qualify. Only bettered by Tunisia whose qualication will be their eleventh.

  2. zambia is a giant of african football. We are building a new and exciting team to qualify for russia 2018. The u-20,u-17 and senior team have all qualified for the afcon. We are not a joke. Gone are the days of chris katongo. We now have lubambo musonda. I see this new zambian team whipping a lot of teams in equatorial guinea. But please lets make Mweene captain. Here is our goal today.

  3. I strongly feel the talented Mayuka should leave southampton. All the reports going round in england is that sadio mane has qualified for afcon 2015. They are forgetting Mayuka has also qualified. Let the boy leave and join a club where he is shown respect. Let them also publish a story on Mayuka qualifying! I want to see Mayuka in the Bundesliga let him leave england.

  4. gud result but the fact is that,we need a gud coach.we played like inter school games at the secondary level janza can’t read the game iwe chi kalu do somthing abt this issue mune, i suspect that even thos subs were done by that white guy. janza is a clueless coach wethr win or wat.

  5. Despite scoring a good goal, Singaluma is not played to his strengths which is positioning and scoring in the penalty area. He is a good header of the ball. Otherwise we have no shape in attack and in defense, the goal was more as the result of individual initiative rather than deliberate team play. Chirs Katongo and Felix Katongo should definitely make the squad; Chris is miles ahead of Chamanga and Felix is sharper and more purposeful than Bruce Musakanya.

  6. Hands off the gaffer?? We need a new “gaffer”. Janza will get us annihilated like Patrick Phiri in 08. We need a capable coach ASAP, otherwise we will be group and done in 2015!! We need to stop accepting mediocrity!! Janza has accomplished what other amateur could have done with the talent we have in zed. They gave Janza the keys to the Benz and told him not to crash it, and he managed not to, except for a few dents….!!

  7. Before I say anything about the ratings. Just want to point out how we do not see these ratings when results don’t go our way, either that or we wait for days Nomba nga twa winna it’s with immediate effect. Ba Zamfoot, I am asking for consistency.

  8. Rating is fair. But I wonder why Kalaba and Mweene didn’t get atleast 9/10.
Sometimes rate above 10, I would give Kalaba 12/10. Mweene 11/10.
You can’t get better players like those 2, I even wonder why not make African footballer of the year.

  9. I believe Kalaba would have been rated a tad higher 9/10 not 8 you could see urgency in him and very comfortable on the ball with runs close to AFCON2012 he is indeed the Master it’s a shame he didn’t score. Defence was ‘ok’ but how Mambas breached it at will i don’t know and pretty sure most Zambian were very uncomfortable whenever Mamba thru that motorised Pelembe gets a ball becoz we just failed to subdue their pace and penetration of the defence line. By and large, though Mambas played better than us with clinical and swift coordinations our hard pushing paid off. Thanks boys.

  10. I also feel we need to make mweene as the skipper, as you all saw how he was talkative through out the match and the experience ,oh my word, you could tell.Sinkala and Sunzu are just too cool for that role.

    • The biggest mistake by Janza is to retain the decision made by those selfish french coaches to appoint Sunzu ans Nathan! For playing for Sochaux then?

Captain should be Mweene and Vice as Kalaba.

  11. Vry correct mweene shd take the captain role,he is too experienced and his command for players is outstanding, sankala is too quiet on the pitch.Congrats boys but stl there is need for improvement

  12. Please Janza bring back Kondwani Mtonga he can do a far much better job than Munthali who is very slow and at times tends to watch the game like a spectator. Mweene should be named captain, he is experienced and u can see his authority in organizing the team.

  13. Please Janza bring back Kondwani Mtonga he can do a far much better job than Munthali who is very slow and at times tends to watch the game like a spectator. Mweene should be named captain, he is experienced and u can see his authority in organizing the team. Well done chipolopolo.

  14. These ratings are fake. Munthali and Damashgano is 2/10. They are useless. Janza 4/10 coz had we played a stronger team we would have lost.

    • I thought we played a better team which clobbered inform Cape verd! In my opinion those r kind of games we been struggling to get 3 points

  15. Has i always say, let us not cheat ourselves, Chris Katongo, Felix Katongo and Isaac Chansa are still needed in the team.We were lucky Mozambique is not a good side, otherwise we could have been if we were playing a better side. The so called fresh blood failed tick (Bruce Musakanya, Dinoshano Malama, Roynald Kampamba and Chris Munthali), its experience which worked for us to win the game. But for sake of development its alright.

    • So what’s your point? you need the literally old players back same time for sake of development youngsters are Ok? I still maintain we need to move forward these young ones will also get experience the same old ones you talking about failed to even pass group stage last year just few months after crowned champions! No guys mentor and polish the young they ve potential

  16. @John your constant calls for Mayuka to leave Southampton to another club or league seems to me that you are encouraging the guy to throw in the “white towel”. I like Mayuka but the guy is still raw at the moment. He is now under the 4th coach since moving to Southampton (including his loan spell in France) but still can’t find the consistency needed to force his way into starting matches. I don’t believe coaches don’t like him. Premiership is just another level (ask Chicharito). It’s up to Mayuka to make use of the few mins he’s given to show the coach what he can do. He’s competing against better strikers at the moment.

  17. Ghana, Ghana, Ghana!!!!!!!!!! They were skinned and undressed, and displayed for all their internals to dry out on the sun. We told you. Hahahahahahahahahahahahah all the way to Kumasi or Accra or whatever.

  18. Zambia were luckt we were playing makula. Lets not settle for silver when we know we can get gold. First half were were out for hanging dry on the sun. Co-ordination of the whole team was not there and even the passing was bad. We were disjointed and very lucky to come out 0-0 at half time.

Lubambo should start and not Bruce. The difference was there for all to see except the coach

Sate Sate should eat bench in place of Evans and no wonder HR left him out. He is a typical number 9 for Nkana of old. Torres type not much involved in the game.

Nkausu should start ahead of Munthali who is too slow

Malama needs to improve against fast running CV.

Nathan lucks confidence and needs alot of game time – it was apparent even in his awful shooting

    Stand out players
    Mweene – should captain
    Kalaba – confident
    Singuluma – workaholic
Mayuka did his job except as a lone striker you will keep on blaming him that he doesn’t score
    Nyambe has matured
Evans – you could see the difference with Sate Sate. Evans is involved on or off the ball. And if Sate Sate does not change this aspect of his game, he will never play professional football in Europe.

Its good Zambia won but we need a much more experienced coach than Janza and please make Mweene the captain Nathan sivimupalako olo pangono.

    Ghana!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or Sorry Uganda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. We still have some job to polish our team. Well done for beating Mozambique. Our defense is not compact Munthali in the next game should rest. Let’s use Nkausu, Lumbambo should start he brought some changes making those crosses.

  20. Personally, I am one person who is not overly obsessed with player rating as there is no scientific way of doing it and anyone can come up his or her own rating of the same game and still get away with it. Hence I only give player rating a cursory look.
Yes indeed a positive result by the boys but I still there is a lot of work to be done. Mozambique ran rings around us and attacked almost at will. They had more goal attempts than us and created more goal scoring opportunities than us. Most of our crosses from the wings came to naught as almost always, our players were dwarfed by the taller Mozambique players. Consequently, our strikers lost almost all aerial tussles. It is not my intention to resurrect my long debate with Uncle Bobs over Sate Sate’s scoring ability at national team level. I have to be excused as I still have more question marks than answers on this boy.
The midfield machinery did not look well-oiled and at one time almost degenerated into a Chipantepante. In in all, we are luck we got the maximum points not because we played a better game but because we played an athletic team which failed to take advantage of its athleticism to punish our defenders who were at sixes and sevens at times.
Having said what I have said, I am not taking anything away from the team and the technical bench.

    • Ba Rok, like I,ve always said, Sate Sate isn’t that fancy like player, but one thing for sure is if he can consistently get game time like some favoured players, you’re assured of goals. Tell me the last time a Zambian player scored over 5 goals in Zambian Club continental soccer, scored 3 in 5 games at CECAFA and consistently scoring more than 12 goals a season per season over 3 seasons in the Premier League. These are facts.

  21. We still have some job to polish our team. Well done for beating Mozambique. Our defense is not compact Munthali in the next game should rest. Let’s use Nkausu, Lumbambo should start he brought some changes making those crosses .let’s beat Cape verde to improve our FiFA rankings

  22. If we are dead serious about rebuilding this team and hoping for success at Afcon 2015 then we need to be careful how we introduce fresh blood into the team. If we are honest enough we need an old head in attack to start with either Mayuka or Singulama. Love him or loathe him this team still needs Chris Katongo period. He may be past his best but he knows how to handle pressure. I’m not suggesting he walks straight into the starting Line up but he as well as Jacob Mulenga can be very useful impact players from the bench. I’m happy to see young guys getting their chances now but if you check your history you’ll agree that “you don’t win tournaments without experienced heads”. Just saying.

  23. I for one has disagreed with Zamfoot of some of the ratings

If ican compare my ratings with Zamfoot ratings

    Kennedy Mweene. 9/10.

    Damoshamo Malaama. 5.5/10
    Emmanuel Mbola. 6/10
    Chritopher Munthali. 5/10
    Nyambe Mulenga. 8/10

    Nathan Sinkala. 7/10
    Bruce Musakanya. 5.5/10
    Given Singulima. 8/10
Rainford Kalaba. 9.5/10. (Man of the match)

    Ronald Kampamba. 6/10

    Emmanuel Mayuka. 8/10

    Subs;
    Lubambo Musonda 7/10
    Davis Nkausu 6.5/10
    Evans Kangwa. ——–

    Team Zambia. 7/10

    Coach; Honor Janza. 7/10

    Ref; Eric Kantsene. 7/10

  24. Over the Captaincy, note that Janza is Yet to crack his whip. The two players in question were installed with that Responsibility by Patrice. We can all tell that Mweene is the Captain without the Arm Band.Iam sure the Coach will move in that direction,Remember he was Chris’ Vice.

  25. truth be told, Mwene must be the captain with kalaba as his vice. the only problem with this demand is that our Janzzas is foreign to enfluence. if he cant read the game, how can he place a finger on the one with leadership qualities? just look at that zulu boy he brought surely it does not need a rocket scientists to weigh that boy who was not even suppose to were the national colors for the mend team

  26. Master, master you do not teach that kind of skill.I liked this player the first time I watched him play in a Cosafa under 20 in S.Afica, bloggers he scored a gem of a goal and from that moment I knew the boy had some thing special.

  27. Chris katongo’s time is gone…..we oredy have the likes of mbola, kalaba, mweene, sunzu, chisamba and Jacob as the old and experienced……why wud we need th katongo brothers??? I mean chris katongo is a bench warmer at his club, why shud he kam bak 2 th national team….it’s tym 2 move on pipo, and Janza is on point with regard to fresh blood…I for 1,I hv given Janza credit 4 his bravery and guts to bench or ommit any1,we didn’t see this in th last 2 coaches we had…..We don’t need the katongo’s,the earlier we do away with them the better, they both ran their race quite well..

  28. I agree with you Game theory Janza is our own and for once Zambians lets be proud of our own lets give the man the rop to hang himself.Janza is the most qualified coach Zambia has at the moment. He has delivered AFCON qualification and with your confidence pipo he will deliver more.Yes like all of us he makes mistakes but its human. So far he has shown enough guts to rebuild by giving us a youthfull squad.most of you are praising the likes of lubambo,Nyambe, and Given these are players who were being overlooked he has given them a chance and they are proving the French were wrong.all the best Janza and keep giving us the results proud Zambian proud Chipolopolo, proud of Janza!!!!

  29. Congralts to the players, coaches and administrastors for qualifying to africon.I would like to coment on the player ratings lubambo is overrated the rating is just 4/10 and he not start de match against cv.how mins did lubambo play and how times did he touch the ball, dnt be quick to rate players highly.he made three errors which could have costed the team.mweene 10/10 the freekicks were deadly, kalaba 9.5 assist, mbola 7/10 he should not judged bcoz of the past performance, given 9/10 goal and defensive runs, mayuka 8/10 holding balla, creating space and should improve shoot, bruce 2/10 didn’t play well but he is agood player, malama 6/10 the yellow card coasted but he played well, nyambe 7/8 played well but didn’t organise well the defence they were going to the same ball 4 to 5 defenders, munthali 6/10 played well but a bit slow, sate sate 5/10 the role he played affected him. Some players should used when you leading by 4 goals to nill as an introduction,eg Fergie used Chicharito 15 mins and the next 30 mins, don’t rush players.
