Perfect debut for Mayuka as he comes off the bench to score winning goal

Zambian international Emmanuel Mayuka made a dream start to life the French Ligue 2 when he came off the bench to score the winner for his club Metz when they triumphed 1 – 0 away against Laval.

Mayuka would have been content to be named on the bench for the team he only signed for last week but he made the most of the 20 minutes he was given to score in the 73rd minute after only being on the pitch for three minutes.

He will be happy to have gotten the break in his first game for Metz after he struggled to find the net for Southampton with his last club goal having come when he played for Sochaux in the French Ligue 1 on 10th may, 2014.

    • I am confident the boy will rediscover the form he had at young boys as well as Afcon 2012. All he needs is to work hard and be deciplined on and off the pitch.

  1. Yes I said it. Mayuka was just wasting his time at that useless English club where wanyama was playing. By the way wanyama was hammered by zambia this last week. Zambians are very capable of playing in the EPL but the clubs there don’t give you a chance. Look at how Andre ayew is hammering those British defenders yet he can’t beat Sunzu what does that tell you? Most of the time when ayew meets Sunzu he has a tough time. Mayuka will shine he is zambia’s number one striker. He will take France by storm just wait for metz to get back to ligue 1.

  2. Mayuka will be African footballer of the year in the next 2-3 years. I made the same prediction about Chris katongo when he was at Armenia bielfield in Germany people laughed at me. It happened a few years later when he was crowned BBC African footballer of the year. Mayuka will come good now. He will be on fire in ligue 1 next season.

  3. True ba John and all … we can only speak well of our own beloved striker. This is great for teamCChipolopolo. Congrats our Mayuka. Keep the momentum. Shalom

  4. I urge Mayuka to work hard and turn down national team call ups atleast for good 6 months so that he fits into his new team very very well.

  5. Mayuka cannot turn down national team call up. We need him. With mbesuma, Mayuka, kalengo, kola, sate sate, Jacob mulenga and evans Kangwa. Zambia have enough ammunition of youth and experience up front. With this kind of talent there is no need for useless people like Jackson mwanza.

  6. upfront the have enough depth what is needed now is work on our defence and goal keeping. afcon 2017 i foresee zambia making history by winning it again

  7. Mayuka is not just a darling of zambian football but he is an African prince. He is way too talented to be benching at clubs like southampton. How many great players have won afcon golden boot. Names like eto and benni Mccarthy and these guys played for clubs like barca and Porto and won the champions league. Why should Mayuka be a bench warmer.

  8. Stop comparing mayuka with ayew,Ayew was voted best African player in ligue 1 last season now he is the best epl player so far. Mayuka flopped in ligue 1 and in epl so ayew is better, stop saying he wasn’t given a chance cos he was.

  9. Here we go again with the mediocrity hahaha lets not start comparing this guy to ayew because andre has over achieved in france and plus mayuka is in ligue 2 so lets be real..andre ayew the son of the greatest african footballer ever needs more appreciation than being compared to flops like mayuka

  10. ppl are sometimes crazy saying things that make no sense. mayuka was scoreless in the premier league. And now he is playing in the french ligue 2, and some ppl saying he will be the best in the next 2 years! he will be the best in the worse league? c’mon ppl it is long season 60 matches we will see. this is what really pisses me off!

  11. You can laugh at what I’m telling you but it is irrelevant that Mayuka is ligue 2 temporarily. This boy just needs game time he will be lethal in the national team with it. These other boys can go and play for Barcelona for all I care they will still get beaten by zambia with a fully fit Mayuka. Zambia players don’t need to be playing for Barcelona like west Africans to prove themselves. All they need is game time and they conquer. Mayuka is heading places mark my words. I said in 2010 on this same site that katongo would be African footballer of the year after I saw him play bayern Munich people laughed you wait again.

  12. Ba Zamfoot is it really mayuka tht scored? well if its 2ru then congrats. Criticism works…frm a let down to signs of life in mayuka.

  13. That’s the spirit Mayuka its all about had work, you manage brother man forget about the past open the new book, just as we know you to be humble, plz humble yourself God will see you you through.

  14. Ba john i suport u.u re propheter john zamfoot.com.i remember very well when u talked about katongo…..indeed who knew katongo was going to be in form and become best african player who would even score goals at the africa tournament 2012?i haveto humble myself when bakulu say things.west african players make names becouse of the history honestly if mayuka was given time to play the same swansea team were your sturbon ayew z playing…re you telling me you would compare the lad to ayew?mayuka is better its only that southern african players would not be appriciated.we had great kalu..charles mudonda…stone nyirenda…msiska..jonson bwalya these guys were shining they thumped big teams on europ…but were sidelined to play in any of the teams in epl.try kalaba to play for any team in england…we have the likes of young talented chisamba lungu who can feet fr any team like arsenal…liverpool not even swansea but everton.yah mayuka..jacob..kola…mbesuma…needs paring its hats off to young kalengo he has skills he is doing great let him not sign anywere at the moment.

  15. Thank you wiza. I said it a few years ago on this site that Chris katongo was going to be African footballer of the year. I watched a game where Armenia bielfeld battled bayern Munich. I couldn’t understand what katongo was doing at a small German club. The man was mature and one of the most skill full players on the pitch. I knew he was headed for great things. It happened in 2012 he was named BBC African footballer of the year. I see Mayuka doing something similar. Zambian players have not just been accorded a chance. Southampton turned yuka into a bench warmer. It had nothing to with training Mayuka was in form and young boys. By the time yuka went to Sochaux he had lost so much form. Now things wi be different at metz and by the time they are back in ligue 1 we will have a different Mayuka one that could become the African footballer of the year.

  16. so that one goal has earned him a place in the national team. lets wait & see if he will be able to maintain the mental forcus. which is a very big problem with zambian players

  17. Congratulations. You cannot understand some PhD syndrome infected characters, just because they are very useless. So on a Zambian Football Blog like this one who do you want us soccer fans to praise?? A Zambian player or a foreigner we don’t even associate with?? Mulekwata amano. This is Zamfoot, a blog for Zambia Football. Even abena Jackson Mwanza and whichever player we have in the Zambian league, we should just encourage them to persevere and shine. We only have one Chipolopolo and we are proud of it.
Congratulations Emmanuel Mayuka keep it up boy, whether in division 2, 3 4, or even division 20 us Zambians are behind you. Those from other countries can also go and praise their players at their blog for all we care.

  18. Mayuka is not new to the National team and always been available. If it wasn’t for the 2013 Afcon injury I believe even now he would have been playing in the first eleven at Southampton. Remember prior to the said Afcon Mayuka was featuring in all the matches as a sub indicating that the Coach had started gaining confidence in him. He is a quick player. Indeed Africa and the World will surely witness another rare talent from Zambia as was Kalu and others. Do you know that the famed ‘bend it like Beckham’ is actually the miniature of the Kalu free kicks. Blessed be Zambia and it’s sons and daughters. Shalom

    • What do u mean by if it weren’t for huns Afcon injury? My brother EPL doesn’t look at performance of players at afcon, if it were so Christian Atsu of Ghana would have made the first eleven of Everton or even Chelsea (owners of Atsu) when he returned with the best Afcon player award last season and this season respectively. Mayuka is a nice lad and we all want him to excel but currently he has fallen from his peak. Even at his peak his achievements in Europe cannot be compared to Andre Ayew. Even when Mayuka was competeing with Andre Ayew’s younger brother (Jordan Ayew) @ sochaux he just couldn’t match up so clearly mayuka is no where near The Ayew brothers so be rael.

      • @mr Emms, its indignity to bring a comparison btw Mayuka and Dede Ayew cos of their two contrasting levels.
Zambians have gotten every right to celebrate their players irrespective of where they play and how that impacts on their career and their FA as a whole.
indeed we west Africans shd be passive and shd have no business comparing and contrasting our players with theirs on this their website cos its like killing a fly with a sledge hammer AND same also goes to zambians to stop drawing our names inside their comments, cos that in itself and many innuendos attract us to be active participators even to the extent of lasing them with insults.
All in all, lets celebrate mayuka cos that guy has suffered lots of flakes lately and encourage him to continue with this performance.KUDOS Yuka!!!!!!!!!

        • Well as I said u can cheer him but don’t compare him to other players or u will get reactions from other Africans. Check the thread and u will realise I was fist to congratulate and cheer Mayuka on. The problem came when some Zambians started saying mayuka is better than other players with better form. johns comment reads “Yes I said it. He will take France by storm just wait for metz to get back to ligue 1.”

          • @mr emms, ive read what that guy wrote concerning ayew and sunzu, always arguing in a one-plug manner, throwing tantrums that defies facts. To him the fact that Turkey beat Holland means Ardan Turan is better then Van persie. To him, AFCON is zambia and zambia is AFCON,that’s in his DNA.I can tell u some guys inhere are matured in their comments but for the rest don’t waste uor breath on such.
            UP MAYUKA!!!!

  19. By the way Sunzu has today played his first game for Lille after coming on as a substute in the second half to solidify the team and earn an away point in the nil all draw in the French league 1

  20. hate or love him but never underrate him.mayuka< Jordan and Andrew combined.mayuka put a gold neckless and won golden boot which the two will never achieve.in Ghana mayuka is popularly known as the Ghanaian destroyer.

    • Ba Tony Mash I think you should review your maths, but you are right Mayuka is less than Jordan and Andre Ayew combined. Andre Ayew is killing it in EPL and Jordan outshines Mayuka at Sochaux. Let’s not be jealous or try to compare, we can appreciate our own without putting down others.

  21. Good news on Sunzu, but the results for Lille are worrying. No wins yet in the season. HR may find himself in hot water soon.

  22. That goal seems to have rejuvenated your hopes, dont forget that he need to shed off that excess fat. Besides a goal after one year is not good enough. He needs to work extra hard.

  23. Pls don’t compare manuka to ayew.Ayew as captain of the u20 team won-wafu gold,African gold and world cup gold.he has won 2 silver medals and a bronze at Afcon.played in the French Ligue, won a best African player.won bbc African player of the yr.scored more goals in a month than manuka in yrs for Southampton.he has won alot I cannot type all.Pls when mayuka is able to score a goal at the world cup we will then start the comparison of the 2 players

  24. @positive thinking, I think lille is playing pretty well and the results are not that bad considering the pedigree of teams they’ve met. They should even be happy cos they’ve played against almost all the major teams in Ligue 1. They’ve played Psg, Monaco, Lyon and bordeaux. Lost just 1 game against Psg. Playing against these top teams early may be a blessing for them.

Now they can go on and hunt for 3 points against their opponents in Ligue 1.

    • Who is he and for which club is he playing his football? In addition to which junior national team are you recommending him? (U17/20/23??) Please substantiate your claims by furnishing the site with detailed facts, otherwise we risk having everyone coming up with names of players we have never heard of, pushing to have them included in any junior national team

      Cheers

  25. Why do some people criticize good things? Always have something negative! Mayuka needs our support. Mayuka, Kalengo,Mbesuma and Jacob Mulenga will take us to Russia for the world cup. Kalaba and Sinkala are becoming quit and less effective. Mweene or Jacob Mulenga could make a good captain. Kalaba did not impress us.

  26. Ba Kafusha Lukanga u appear well informed on Zed football matters, but it is suprising what u r asking about Conlyde! The boy plays for Lusaka Dynamos, currently playing Mufulira Wanderers. The game is on SS4. He is 20 yrs old! With proper selection you wud have heard of him. But Kalu picks the teams…sigh… what nonsense in Zambia?

    • @Slim, regarding local Zambian football I rely on ZAMFOOT, other media and my fellow bloggers based in Zambia. I am unable to Watch the local League from my location

  27. @ Justice. Conlyde Lukanga turns out for Lusaka dynamos. In the current season he has scored 7 times. Reportedly he is only 17 years. His stature/physique is good for a football.Above all he is well skilled as a young and developing player.

    • @sly, regarding local Zambian football I rely on ZAMFOOT, other media and my fellow bloggers based in Zambia. I am unable to Watch the local League from my location

    • If Conlyde Luchanga is as good as it has been put, then we will blame poor team selection. The process used for selecting players must be wrong and I personally doubt whether this will improve, as long as those selecting have their preferred players

The media is not helping either. No details of the best players in particular games are given. Media coverage has always had focus on very few and particular teams.

  28. That is it! He is headed for bigger things in that league. When a new player scores on his debut, they usually go on to shine but when you don’t score on your debut or atleast in the first 3 – 5 games most of them struggle.

So let him take each game as it comes and also know that it is a long road ahead. All the best.

  29. We are all happy for Mayuka but let’s be careful from what experience has taught us about his performances in France. We should not be too quick to heap bucket loads of praise for the simple fact the last time he was in France we did just that after two or three good performances then that got to the lads head and he ended a flop in France. This is one game, this is only 20 minutes of football. What makes a player great is not only good performances but consistent good performances. Well done Mayuka but consider this a start and a reason to work even harder.

I see that we are grouped Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia in group A for the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.
Group B consists of Egypt, Algeria, Mali and Nigeria.
The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semi-finals of the competition, which will run from November 28 to December 12 in Dakar and M’Bour.
The three medal winners at the continental tournament will qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
