Paper Talk: Frenchman favourite for Chipolopolo job

FRENCHMAN Didier Six is favourite to take over the Chipolopolo top job from Spain-bound Wedson Nyirenda.

FAZ insiders told the Sports Mail in Lusaka yesterday that the association has settled for the 63-year-old former France international as Nyirenda’s replacement.

Nyirenda is this month expected to leave for further studies in Spain alongside four other local coaches.

“Didier Six is the coach FAZ want to employ. He is the one who has been communicated to and he will be called for formalities soon. He is the FAZ’s first choice.

Didier made his name as a French winger in the  late 70s and 80s and featured for the likes of Lens, Marseille and RC Strasbourg in his homeland.

Former Chipolopolo striker Jacob Mulenga spent a season loan at Strasbourg during his spell in France.

He also had a successful spell with Galatasary were he won a Turkish league title.

Didier also played at Belgian side Cercle Bruggle, a few years before Kalusha Bwalya and Stephen Keshi were signed.

Twenty later, after Fred Mwila played for English side Aston Villa, Didier joined the club and made 15 appearances.

On the international scene, he won 52 caps for France and scoring 13 goals.

He played at three major tournaments including the 1978 and 1982 World Cup.

He was also part of the Euro 1984 winning squad.

On his coaching career, Didier has coached RC Strasbourg before a three year spell with Togo in 2011.

He then had unsuccessful spell with Mauritius and was in charge of the Islanders at the 2015 Cosafa Cup.

  1. What criterion was used to make him the favourite? Why not Claude Le roy, probably, the most experience expatriate on the African continent? What is the main objective of FAZ? What makes him the best man to deliver on the set objective? Answers to these question should clarify why he is the favourite.

  2. He is well travelled as a footballer…he needs a break from what I can see…I need a break as well to see all the talent we have used in the team…Nyirenda refused to used players that are performing consistently like Mbola for reasons unknown. FAZ should employee this guy, give him a one year contract to see what he can do…maximum two years and lets build from there…

  3. He looks good, he has enough experience by playing and coaching at the highest level,Yes he has little experience coaching in Africa, but Zambia will give it to him. Kudos to FAZ,for once you have reacted to the cry of the fans.

  4. He looks good, he has enough experience by playing and coaching at the highest level,Yes he has little experience coaching in Africa, but Zambia will give it to him. Kudos to FAZ,for once you have reacted to the cry of the fans.Claude reloy is just too old.

  5. PERSONAL OPINION: I THINK IT IS VERY UNWISE OF FAZ TO JUST PICK SOMEONE JUST LIKE THAT.THE BEST WOULD HAVE BEEN TO ADVERTISE THE VACANCY AS PER CUSTOM,INTERESTED CANDIDATES WOULD THEN APPLY,SHORT LIST AND THEN CALL FOR INTERVIEWS AFTER WHICH THE BEST CANDIDATE WOULD BE PICKED.THIS IN MY VIEW IS ‘BLACK MARKET KIND OF SOURCING’.MY ONLY HOPE IS THAT HE WILL PROVE HIMSELF AND THAT KAMANGA WILL NOT GET DOWN TO BITING HIS NAILS.
THE ONLY CONSOLATION IS THAT WADA’S ROAD HAS COME TO AN END! WE HAD ENOUGH OF HIS ARROGANCE.WE MIGHT JUST AS WELL GIVE SUPPORT TO THIS FRENCH MAN EVEN THOUGH THE NORMAL RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION PROCESS HAS NOT BEEN FOLLOWED BY FAZ.CHEAP SOMETIMES CAN BE EXPENSIVE BUT ALL THE THE BEST TO FAZ EXECUTIVE AND THE WOULD-BE COACH!

  6. My major concern of this imminent move if true is the french mans not so “accomplished” coaching career so far.Yes,his playing career was illustrious but his coaching credentials raises question marks. What has moved FAZ to pick him??He has only managed Strasbourg,Togo and in January 2015 he managed Mauritius and was fired in May 2015 following a suspension for poor behaviour during the COSAFA Castle cup 2015 edition.

FAZ can find a better coach if they spread their net wide within whatever budget they are working with.I also hope they include a performance based clause in the contract of whoever coach will be is signed. The time for experiment is over!

  7. I am not moved, convicted and impressed! The fact that this guy played for France, He is French and He is white does not convince me at all, the thing is to be honest Wada even had a strong CV before appointment to Coach Chipolopolo than this Guy. I don’t care whether He is more qualified the thing is qualifications must be supported by results We are not an experimental team. Please settle for the best if you want results unless the issue is money.

  8. Sorry to say,am not moved by this man’s credentials. Why has faz, used a black market way of sourcing coaches?.Why did not follow the normal procedure of selecting and appointing coaches?.Why shortcuts.?.Personally I don’t trust this administration. It’s full of background activities.

  9. This is the right person to coach zambian. Coaching a losing team does not one is not good enough. And considering that he is an expatriate that a good move. Local coaches are corrupt. Nyirenda has been fighting players and busy recruiting average players. With a good coach zambia can win afcon again. The talent is there.

  10. Didier Six will deliver not Nyirenda.Even if he comes back from Spain, let him go to City of Lusaka not even Lusaka Dynamos can accept him.

  11. At 60 this guy Six z not ambitious enough to inspire the chipolopolo good playing experience but poor coaching experience i feel we can do better with him we almost there but i little more would do us good
