Zambia Women’s national team midfielder Evarine Susan Katongo says the team is eager to play the final and win the tournament.
Katongo told the ZamFoot Crew in a post match interview that the Copper Queens are at the tournament to win the trophy and bring it home.
Katongo was named as the player of the match on Friday in the Copper Queens 2-1 win over Tanzania to book a place in the final.
The 19 year old said she did not expect to win the award and was quick to credit her teammates for the accolade.
“I feel very happy, I did not expect this. It’s because of the team work , the courage we had and the cooperation as a team that’s what made me get this award,” she said.
“It was not an easy game, Tanzania is the defending Champions, so today we told ourselves to stay focused so that we can win the match and qualify to the final which happened and we really thank God. As a team we did not expect an easy game because we knew Tanzania would come with full force.”
“As a team we are ready for the final. Our goal is to win the trophy and carry it back home. As a team we can’t wait to play the final and win the tournament,” she added.
Goals from Barbra Banda and Misozi Zulu secured a 2-1 for the Copper Queens to book a place in the final with Banyana Banyana.
The final will take place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at 15h30 on Sunday 11th September, 2022
